President-elect Donald Trump thanked Alex Jones — the radio host and conspiracy theorist who, among other things, has called the Sandy Hook massacre a hoax — and his listeners for helping him win the election, according to Jones.
Over the weekend, Jones, who runs infowars.com, posted a video rehashing a 5-minute phone call the two had.
“On my way here Donald Trump gave me a call … I wanted to talk to you to thank your audience and I’ll be on in the next few weeks to thank them. I said ‘is this a private call?’ He said ‘no, I want to thank your viewers thank your listeners for standing up for this Republic. We know what you did early on and throughout this campaign to stand up for what is right.”
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation and whether Trump supported Jones' views, in particular on the Newtown shooting.
In December, Trump spent nearly half an hour doing an interview with Jones.
Hillary Clinton brought up Jones during an August speech on the "radical fringe" that Trump’s candidacy was mobilizing.
“[Jones] even said, and this really just is so disgusting, he even said the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre were child actors and no one was actually killed there,” Clinton said. “Trump doesn’t challenge these lies, he actually went on Jones’ show and said your reputation is amazing, I will not let you down.”
