Hillary Clinton gave a heartfelt pep talk to House Democrats Monday evening and called on the party to avoid internal division as it moved past the election day losses.
Clinton, in an 18-minute call that was introduced by her top campaign aide, John Podesta, told Democratic lawmakers she had earned more votes than Republican Donald Trump, who handily won the electoral college and the presidency.
"And no one is sorrier than me," Clinton told Democrats, according to a source on the call. "Heartbreaks don't heal overnight and this one won't."
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, of California, praised Clinton on the call. She said "our hearts are broken but our determination is deepened."
Pelosi called Clinton "one of the greatest leaders in our country's history, president or not."
Clinton called on Democrats to analyze what happened in the election and not be "distracted or diverted in the fights ahead."
She told Democrats she was "grateful beyond words," for their support.
According to the source, three members asked general questions and Podesta offered to meet with one lawmaker, Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., to go over election results.
