President-elect Donald Trump didn't expect his candidacy to last past October 2015 and was prepared to endorse Gov. Chris Christie when he dropped out, CNN reported.

The revelation comes out in a CNN book titled "Unprecedented: The Election that Changed Everything."

"Trump told Christie in 2015 that he didn't expect to make it past October — at which point he would endorse Christie," a Christie adviser told the book's authors. "I think they always had an understanding that the first one out would probably endorse the other."

Trump and Christie had previously known each other before the Republican primary, CNN reported, and largely left each other alone throughout primary season while tag-teaming Sen. Marco Rubio in the process.

However, Trump removed Christie as head of his transition team over the weekend, reportedly calling him a "stupid thug" for his role in closing down the George Washington Bridge.
