Friday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was optimistic about the prospects of President-elect Donald Trump being able to follow through with his campaign promises of a border wall.

Gohmert told “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy that there has been money already appropriated for the wall and that he was excited about the prospects of Trump “actually following the law.”

“It’s amazing what you can get Congress to do when you lead and push them in the right direction,” Gohmert said. “And actually, you know, we had appropriated money during the Bush administration that didn’t get spent for the wall. So, yeah, it’s going to be great to have somebody that’s actually following the law.”

“We’re going to be able to get this done,” he added. “It’s going to happen.”

Please, God. No wall.

An Israeli style border fence is more effective and less expensive.

Don't screw this up.

He's talking about Duncan Hunter's fence. That dough has been allocated since 2006 or so...

The secure fence act already calls for it and is being constructed all along the border as it is. Anyone driving on I8 in Southern California or Arizona or I10 in Texas has seen it. For example, Imperial California.

El Paso

I just drove half the border a few weeks ago on a cross country trip and the border fence and other security measures are well under construction. The areas where it isn't have geographical issues but still have other security measures.

The 'wall' talk was a 'ra ra' line. The funds are there, the construction is being performed all under the Secure Fence act. A 'wall' won't improve anything beyond what the currently under construction border security program is doing. At that, the secure fence act calls for different type of security measures optimized for the terrain it is protecting. Such as the images above. In the Imperial desert, it is a wall, in Juarez/El Paso, it is a secured fence similar to the Israeli example.

More of what's already under construction or being built via the Secure Fence act. Walls, fences, and other security optimized for the terrain.

And those images demonstrate the problem with the current construction. It is a wall for show. Do you see any barbed wire? No no no... we wouldn't want any illegals getting cuts while jumping the wall, would we?

Hell, if it was up to me, we might even put minefields out there, but that maaaaay be extreme. I'd settle for at least two standalone courses of barbed wire, and a fence topped with the stuff.

Until then, it's just for show. When you are worried someone might get hurt jumping it, you're just putting it there knowing they will.

I still LOL at what Ann Coulter said when asked if Trump could build "the wall".

"You can go into any of the dozens of Trump's buildings...get into an elevator...go up a half mile in the sky and order a creme' brulee.  A wall is a skyscraper laying on its side.   He can build the fkn' wall."

Border walls don't work.  Rick Perry said so.   888high58888

Joking aside, the border fence in San Diego works very well, where it exists.  But it ends in East County, and all Juan and Marina need do is head east to enter Obama's America.

I would like to see the project completed but I know it never will be.  Trump's certainly not going to get it done.  No one will because the will just isn't there.

The fencing in San Diego works well, all 14 miles of it.  Juan and Maria don't jump it, there is no need to, they just go around.  There are motion sensors, cameras, drones and Border Patrol agents in vehicles close by.  So if someone should decide to climb the fencing they wouldn't get far.  All this is moot as long as the fence ends and they can just go 14.5 miles and walk right across.

The true value of the fencing will only be known if and when it is completed.

The money for the wall has been there since 2006.
