Republicans governorships rise to highest mark since 1922

EFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Republican power in state capitols will be at its strongest levels in nearly a century when several newly elected governors take office next year.

A remarkable election that propelled Republican Donald Trump to the White House also resulted in Republican wins in a trio of governorships previously held by Democrats in Missouri, New Hampshire and Vermont. The only potential Republican setback came in North Carolina, where Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper declared victory over Gov. Pat McCrory in a race that remained too close to call Wednesday.

If Cooper's slim lead holds, Republicans will control 33 of the 50 governors' offices — one shy of their record set in 1922.

Republicans also appeared likely to maintain control of about two-thirds of the state legislative chambers, meaning that in many states they will have the power to enact whatever policies they choose.

I feel bad for the courageous Gov. Pat Mcrory of North Carolina, who stood like a rock in the face of the national onslaught for his stand on Transgender bathrooms.

It looks like the North Carolinians will not reward him with another term and he will lose by a squeaker.

They say NC, beautiful state it is, has had one heckuva serious migration there from NJ and NY.  These kinds of demographic changes are really sad.

Same kind of a sad thing with Colorado (and Oregon and Washington) and allegedly Californians moving there has happened as well.

So, if one wants to say they are Carolinans who are doing this,  such a sentence should at least have an asterisk.

Yet they've done almost nothing with that power on a national level.

This is good, with Redistricting coming up in 2020.

Yep, only a few brave souls like Ted Cruz , Mike Lee have fought the good fight.

I hope Trump is not the ultimate Trojan Horse.... Seems obama is favorable to him. Still we know the Shrew would be bad.

Guess time will tell.

Republicans have supermajorities in at least 24 states which gives them considerable power to force major changes in DC but they don't seem willing to do so. State Attorney Generals seem to be far more willing to take a stand against DC.

Good time as any for a Con Con.

Oh stop blaming Oregon and Washington on California, there aren't enough liberals from California to explain the psychosis of those two states who surpass even California in lunacy. And truth be told it was probably Conservatives that moved there from California for the most part, and that's all that's left for California Conservative to do, leave for sanity.

She is experiencing post election euphoria.  Or maybe a hormonal imbalance....  Either way, it will pass.
