With the FBI having obtained a warrant to begin poring over the 650,000 reported emails found on Anthony Weiner's computer, attention shifts to just what the FBI may find, with Democrats alleging that much of the thousands of emails allegedly sent from Huma Abedin's computer are duplicates or otherwise innocuous, while critics alleging more deleted and/or confidential emails may emerge. On her, behalf, however, long-time Hillary aide Huma Abedin has told the FBI she was not aware any of her emails were on the laptop investigators seized as part of its probe info Anthony Weiner's investigation.

According to Politico, the FBI engaged in a back and forth over the weekend with Abedin or her attorney, when Abedin explained the situation.

"She says she didn't know they were there," a source familiar with the investigation said. This is a sensitive topic for Abedin and the Clinton campaign, because on previous occasions, Huma - under oath - disclosed that all the emails in her possession had been accounted for and handed over to the FBI.

As CNBC adds,"there are a number of scenarios that would explain how the emails got onto the laptop without Abedin's knowledge, including that they were somehow automatically backed up from the cloud. But investigators will want to know how this happened and if there is any indication that Abedin misled them about the existence of emails.

Quote
It is a large project. Agents determined there were as many as 650,000 emails on the laptop, dating back years. The number of emails related to the Clinton investigation is likely to be much smaller.

On Saturday, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta said Abedin had been fully cooperative with the FBI investigation.  "I don't think she knows anything more than what we've seen in the press to date," Podesta said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."

"I’m sure...if people—proper authorities want to ask her questions, they'll ask her questions, but she's been fully cooperative in this investigation.”

The FBI is now filtering the emails using a software program that will separate out any emails that investigators have not seen before. Those will be kept in a separate file and will be examined by FBI agents to see if they contain classified material or information relevant to the Clinton probe. It is not clear what FBI Director James Comey will do with the information once the FBI obtains it. Standard practice is for the FBI not to comment on investigations — but this is not a standard situation. "We're in uncharted territory," the source said.

It is possible that Comey could indicate publicly what the FBI finds before Election Day next week, but that decision has not been made yet.

She doesn't know how they got there.  Right.  Almost certainly she accessed them through a web client on that computer and thinks that the computer didn't keep copies because she used a web client.  However, I will bet good money she knows she used that computer to access them using a web client.

I bet there's a lot of things about Weiner you don't know about, Huma.

3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.

Was that meant as a pun/double entendre?  Because even if it wasn't, it's still a pretty good one...  :pondering:
After 40 years of being lied to by people who called themselves "Conservatives", I no longer consider myself to be a "Conservative".

You dont access classified systems through a 'web client' on a personal computer.   The ONLY way classified emails got to a private computer is someone breaking the law.  Pure and simple.

We've known that all along.... Somebody should have been arrested in the whole Private Server thing, just for putting classified onto a personal device.  And yet the FBI "declined to indict."  Grrrrrr.....

Now, however, you have Huma's spinners trying to suggest that she knew nothing -- nothing at all -- about how those e-mails got onto a different computer.  Well, honey, it doesn't matter.  They're yours, and they're out there, and there's a butt-load of them -- you had a hand in putting them there, and they shouldn't have been there at all.

Yep, so instead we have some of the most sensitive secrets our govt has being stored on a personal computer of a guy frequenting porn sites, online dating sites and who knows what else.

I think Weiner was stealing them and saving them away as potential "insurance" - something he might be able to use to bargain himself out of jail time or possibly into some sort of a cushy job.

I suspect it's probably something more innocuous, like a cloud backup sort of thing.  As soon as Huma logged into her account on Wiener's computer, her e-mail created a local cache.  (I know Outlook does this, if your settings are right -- others probably do the same.)

Huma just doesn't seem to me to be a scheming manipulator like her boss. Wiener on the other hand, is a giant douche.

Podesta's e-mails show that the whole Clinton crowd are a bunch of scheming manipulators, and Huma would be right in there among them.  And she married a giant douche.

To be honest, I'm surprised that Huma and Weiner still have a computer they used back in 2008.  The thing is so far past obsolete... it's ridiculous.

I'm surprised they didn't recycle it back around 2011-2012.

---

Secondly, I don't really know why they didn't just sit a powerful electromagnet on top of the hard drive... and then claim they 'didn't know' that an electromagnet would wipe the hard drive.

I mean, sometimes you need a powerful electromagnet.  Maybe to build a toy railgun.  And who doesn't test it while on their computer?

The emails were from the time Clinton was the Secretary of State.  If the computer was new, then Huma would never have received/sent emails containing potential classified information... as Clinton no longer had access to them after her time as the SoS.

There are other ways for Huma's older e-mails to be on Wiener's machine -- I named one, just above.

Also, Clinton stopped being SoS at the end of 2012, not 2008....

@r9etb

So how did they get onto the cloud in the first place to be backed up on Weiner's computer?

And wouldn't the FBI have known that her own computer was set to backup on the cloud when they first took/examined it?  That's sort of e-discovery 101 -was anything backed up on the cloud?

If that's the explanation, then it means all that highly classified stuff was in the cloud and might be downloaded onto any device on which she had, for example, Outlook.

I think that's odd if they just figured that out.

Also, i don't believe her explanation anyway -it's the only thing she can say to avoid a perjury/obstruction/security breach charge.

I'm not saying it's not possible.  I'm just really skeptical.

I'm not saying it's not possible.  I'm just really skeptical.

The webmail server is essentially "in the cloud."  In Outlook, and probably others, the e-mails can also be downloaded onto the machine you're using at the moment, so that you can access your messages off-line.  Once you log in from a different machine, it automatically downloads the stuff to that machine as well.  So that's one way the stuff could get onto the machine.

The FBI almost certainly wasn't looking at her e-mail settings -- IIRC, they were just looking at the e-mail messages that had been provided to them.

And the only way they found them on Wiener's machine was that they were looking at his e-mails -- not his settings.

I don't believe her explanation, either -- I think she used Wiener's machine, probably much more than once, to do whatever, and she's trying the Clinton-standard "can't recall" excuse to get off the hook.

The problem i have with that is that this wasn't just a criminal investigation - there were also significant national security implications in having all that highly classified information on unsecured machines.  Part of the entire process of limiting the damage should have been to ensure that none of that stuff was passed on/leaked to any other unsecured machines/devices/methods of storage.   Including the cloud.

For the FBI and other security personnel to have overlooked that possibility is just baffling.  It would mean that all that data would be recreated the second she signed back on to any other computer.

Could that really not have occured to them?  I mean, in electronic discovery, the cloud is as basic as it gets.  They couldn't have been ignorant of that.  That would be blindingly incompetent.

@HonestJohn

As Hillary was running her own server she had access to them whenever she wanted.

The FBI was looking at what Hillary allowed them to see.  Those emails had been reviewed by hillarys people and clearedo for the FBI.  They had already been sanitized to protect hillary.

This new information was not cleaned by her tech people.
