Christie Offer of VP Job Rescinded Due to Bridge-Gate

Donald Trump initially offered, but then rescinded, an offer to Gov. Chris Christie to be Trump's vice presidential running mate, the New York Post reported Sunday.
According to the Post, Trump's closest advisers, including his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, wanted the GOP nominee to pick Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
In a call to Trump July 12, "Christie said he thinks he deserves it and he earned it" – and Trump made the offer, according to the Post.
Christie "said all the BS that Trump likes to hear, and Trump said, 'Yeah, sure I’m giving it to you,'" the Post reported.
Afterward, however, then-manager Paul Manafort told Trump, who had flown to speak with Pence, that his plane had a mechanical problem, another unnamed source told the Post, forcing Trump to spend another night in Indiana.
Pence made his case to be Trump’s No. 2 over dinner as Trump’s advisers argued that Christie’s Bridge-gate troubles would be bad for the campaign, the Post reported.
"Trump had wanted Christie but Bridge-gate would have been the biggest national story," a third unnamed source told the Post. "He’d lose the advantage of not being corrupt."
After Trump decided to pick Pence, he told Christie, saying it would "tear my family apart if I gave you VP," one of the Post sources said.
