Who is "they"? One of two people will be President after the election. I wish we had another choice who could win, but we dont.
The chance is slim, but three times in our history (which amounts to 8% probability) the House of Representatives had to choose the President because no candidate reached the minimum number of electoral votes. This is a very real possibility in our election because it is so close and States like Utah show the third party candidate tied for the lead. Remember that in 2000, Bush won by just 2 EVs.
This is a part of our Republic that the founders wrote into the Constitution. Call it a big red Constitutional reset button.
It is so voting your values versus playing the political game only, is never a wasted vote.
The only waste is when you set aside your values for the game....
...at that, in the big picture of things, when people tell you to set aside your values for a decision, that's the time you should hold on to your values even tighter.
A decision that is correct will confirm your values, not ask you to set them aside.
