Stoneware temporary topic
« on: October 24, 2016, 09:25:07 pm »

[link removed . . . PM me if you have a serious interest. Cheers]

It's all cone 10 stoneware with food safe glazes.

My 'signature glaze effect' is a foundation glaze of RGH Shino with Chen Red over that and a Rutile Blue highlights.

I have done some bowls in a Black Mountain White outside and a cobalt blue inside.

The 'deep plates' (with inch or so side-boards) were originally designed to prevent food sliding off in my lap from conventional plates when I eat--as I usually do--in my Laz-Y-Boy.

IIRC, the bean pots are around 12 cups worth in volume.

IF anyone is interested, please copy the pic to here and I'll consider trying to duplicate it. No promises and no timeline, however.

Thanks for your kind words.

I don't offer if I don't mean it.

I've probably given 700-800 mugs away the last 25-30 years. Those take a lot of time with my carved handles and names on them . . . so I'm more inclined to charge people in town for those.

However, you give to all of us hereon of your time, efforts and resources, it would be an honor to say thinks by sending you a piece you'd truly enjoy and use. I'm not so thrilled when they just collect dust on a shelf.

If a lot of folks hereon requested pieces, I'd likely have to have help with postage . . . but otherwise, I'm quite seriously willing.

Blessings,

Note:

I probably would not get anything off to any of you before 15 Nov. But I likely . . . likely . . . could before 15 Dec.

Cereal, berry, salad bowls & deep plates or conventional plates are easiest and quickest. Mugs with names take me about an hour and a half and about 15 or more steps . . . I carve the handles to fit fingers so I'd need to know whether one was left or right handed and the height and diameter wanted. If more than 3 or 4 wanted mugs, I might have to start asking for payment because of the time required. And, if more than 2-3 want pieces, I'd likely have to ask for postage.

Otherwise, I'm quite serious about offering such.

One warning:

On the bottoms are my trademark:

FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, JOY; and under LOVE is ALWAYS as in love always. And then around the rest of the center line is ETERNAL VALUES WIN

And on plates, out from that are random Bible verses. So if that's not your thing--tough--I don't do pieces without such on the bottom.

Beautiful work! I particularly like the 'nebula effect' of the blue and red together, a swirl of white looks like a galaxy against that background.

Thanks thanks.

Would you like a deep plate or a cereal bowl like that? Do you have a spouse?

Can you post a pic here from that collection that is most like that to your preference?

There's a fair range that fit your description.

Quix,

That is quite impressive work.  I play tennis with a local art professor at one of our local universities.  He makes pottery as well, and yours rival his for sure.  You are very talented.  I remember trying to "throw" a pot back in high school and having the clay fly off the wheel...lol.

Like I say.....you are very gifted....and thank you for posting the pictures of your work.

Now I have flashbacks of Demi Moore....lololol.

Thanks much, for your kind words.

So, there's nothing simple you saw that you'd like something similar to as a gift?

I would not take unfair advantage of your generosity.  Mrs. Joe (yes there is one!) bakes bread. If you could, she could use a large bowl to mix dough and let the dough rise in Something like that would be a boon to us all, and would inevitably be passed down (we already have great grandaughters) as a family heirloom.  If you would be interested in such an undertaking, let me know, and let me know how much you would need to cover any expenses or charges.

Wellllllllllllllll, silly rabbit . . . you have selected the bean pot that is the most favorite piece I've ever made. The pic does not do it justice. That inside glazing turned out rather opalescent. I'm  going to try and reproduce it. There's a FREEPER Righteousmomma in NC that has the one pictured.

I don't know that a bowl without a lid would result in that incredible glaze effect because I think the inclusion of the lid intensifying the reduction firing climate was a key part of the result. But I plan to try. And, perhaps I'll be energetic and throw a lid for the bowl anyway. LOL. I used to hate making lids but they aren't really all that bad to make. LOL.

If it gets real involved, I'll likely charge you at least postage. If it's simple enough, maybe just postage. A large bowl would take probably $5-8 worth of clay out of a $10 25lb bag. Will see. I love making large bowls.

I don't recall if any of the pieces in that group had the 'alligator skin' effect with little raised chips or not. That's one thing I like to do with large bowls.

I love folks enjoying using my pieces. So many of them just sit on mantles and in hutches etc.

So, what diameter are we talking about . . . 12" or 14" or what? And say 8-12" deep? Please measure a bowl she prefers using now.

What you see is my favorite, signature glaze treatment but I'm willing to do a solid cobalt blue or a slightly mottled (light brown, tan spots) white outside and cobalt blue inside--I just think they are more boring.

Oh, but for dough, I should make it thicker than my usual. That might take the whole bag. That's OK. But still, that bowl might be 14" diameter and 8-12" deep. Just let me know. Whatever's doable in such regards.

Thanks for the honor of your request. I just love it when folks truly enjoy what I create.

No. I don't. Have been fiercely protective of my privacy against the Jihadi's angry at all the things I've written on the net about Islam. LOL.

I have a friend willing to sell through his Etsy site but I haven't even done that. I mostly sell at the benefit sale for the Hospice and then incidentally through folks who find out about me. But actually, I mostly give stuff away. Silly me, I know.

Thanks for your kind words.
