Reid: 'I have set the Senate' for nuclear option

By Jordain Carney

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is predicting a Democratic-majority Senate next year could break out the "nuclear option" to change the rules on Supreme Court nominations.
The outgoing Democratic leader told Talking Points Memo that he's paved the way for what would be a historic change of the Senate's rules, allowing Supreme Court nominees to bypass a 60-vote procedural requirement and be approved by a simple majority.

"I really do believe that I have set the Senate so when I leave, we’re going to be able to get judges done with a majority," he said. "It’s clear to me that if the Republicans try to filibuster another circuit court judge, but especially a Supreme Court justice, I’ve told 'em how and I’ve done it, not just talking about it. I did it in changing the rules of the Senate. It’ll have to be done again."

The filibuster has been a dead man walking for a while now, IMO.

Because.....that's what leftists always do.  Change the rules mid-game in their favor.  And the gutless/nadless GOP always lets them get away with it.  As does the American people.

We're done.  No fork required.

I guess they should have used the nuclear option when impeaching Clinton, then we wouldn't be having this mess we are dealing with today.

This guy won't stop him or Schumer or his new rules:
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

With all due respect, this is the kind of lazy thinking that irritates me in conservative circles. Stale platitudes blaming the generic GOP and not even mentioning the idiotic GOP base for voting someone like Trump into power, which increasingly looks like it will give the Dems the Senate, and therefor power to shitcan the filibuster.

Continuing to blame the "nefarious GOP" instead of the idiot GOP base is a good reason why we lose time and again.

Is there a difference between the "nefarious GOP" and the idiot GOP base? Sheeple are sheeple. Even if they operate inside the Beltway.

If it weren't for the "generic GOP (i.e. Uniparty) a populist like Trump would have been laughed off the National Stage.

I don't know what you're getting at. In my mind, "the GOP" is synonymous with what the conservative hive mind like to blame for all things wrong with Washington.

In my mind, it's "the base" that was responsible for the walking abortion known as Trump being our frontrunner.

The GOP brought us McCain. Then Romney. Those two failed and renegade Repubs brought Trump to the table. If the Republican Party had any stones at all, they would have surfaced at the Convention and they would have sent Trump home and nominated Kasich as many demanded.

They didn't. Instead they rolled the dice and figured "what the hell. Lets see what happens. They worse we could do is watch Trump lose."

Wrong. The worst is yet to come. The worst is a complete fallout and implosion of the Republican Party.
