(CNN)Donald Trump criticized the Obama administration's move to normalize relations with Cuba as a "very weak agreement," though he said some sort of a deal is "fine," in an interview with a local CBS station in Miami over the weekend.


Trump also responded to charges leveled in a Newsweek report from earlier this year, which alleged that he violated the US-Cuban embargo in 1998 by sending associates to explore business opportunities on the island. Further reporting from Bloomberg purported to show that additional Trump associates went in 2012 and 2013 to look at potential opportunities for a golf resort.
The Republican nominee appeared to confirm parts of the reporting, saying that he would "have to find out" if they had in fact traveled to Cuba in violation of the embargo, while acknowledging that "they had some meetings."

"I don't know exactly where they were. I can tell you that Cuba wants to, you know, really negotiate with us. They've said, 'We want to negotiate.' They want to make some kind of a deal. I've said, I don't want to make any deals unless we know we have a deal with Cuba. I think it's appropriate," he said.

"But you think they did, in fact, go to Cuba?" Defede asked.

"Well, know that Cuba wants us to go there. I'm not interested in going," Trump replied.
Defede countered, "No, I meant as emissaries -- did those individuals travel there to have those discussions?"

"I would have to find out," Trump said. "I know they had some meetings, but I would have to find out."

Under the five-decades-old US-Cuban trade embargo -- which can only be lifted by Congress -- US citizens are banned from spending any funds on the island. But while the US and Cuba restored relations in July of last year, and Obama has eased some sanctions to allow more US travel and commerce with Cuba, the embargo remains in place.

At a rally in Miami earlier in September, Trump had also blasted the Cuba policy changes, an apparent shift from past statements in which he supported the reopening of diplomatic relations after more than 50 years.

Considering that Havana was once a big Casino town run by many of the same people that established Las Vegas...I'm surprised he would even hint at freezing relations again...but then we already know about his lack of business acumen.

However...

Why am I not surprised to find you on the side against one of the very few things Obama sort of got right?   


For years I supported the policy of boycott and isolation for Cuba.   (I actually supported the policy of going down there and kicking communist @$$,  but that's another story) 


It was only in the last couple of decades did I come to the realization that the best way to destroy communism in Cuba was to do it in the manner we destroyed communism in Romania.   

Demonstrating the difference in what we have with our system,  versus what they have with their system.


Trading with Cuba and having American Tourists go to Cuba will probably topple the communists in Cuba.


As Franklin said:

Let the communists see what they are missing and they will quickly lose their communistic ardor.

Meanwhile we've given them everything they want with nothing in return except a pissed off Cuban exile community in South Florida.  Castro didn't even feel the need to meet Obama at his place as is the custom with one head of state visiting another.

You expect results in less than a year?   Boy you are naive!    You have to plant the seeds and then watch it grow.   The seeds of discontent,  the very thing that grew communism in the first place,  will take it down.   


The public of Cuba must realize and become aware that they too could have all of the things Americans have if they were allowed to participate in free market capitalism.   But they must first see the wealth and see the freedoms which are denied them.   Then the discontent will grow.

Do you know anything about world history,  and specifically about the rise and fall of communist countries around the world?   


You don't seem to be up to speed on these subjects.    The Communist regime in Cuba has been continuing it's brutality for the last 50 years without an influx of money.   The only thing an influx of money will do to them is get people envious of those who have it and mad at the people keeping them from getting it.  i.e. "communists."   


Even the Chinese have figure out how this capitalism stuff works.   They may claim to be communists,  but they are getting wealthy in leaps and bounds by following this capitalism stuff.   

Once you let it out,  there is no putting that genie back into the bottle,  at least not with any generation that remembers communism.
