Texas becomes tossup, RealClearPolitics declares

By Cyra Master

The political tracking site RealClearPolitics, which collects and averages polls in every state, declared Sunday that Texas is now a tossup in the presidential election.

The site previously classified the traditionally red state as leaning toward GOP nominee Donald Trump. But with the release of CBS tracking poll Sunday showing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton down just 3 points in the Lone Star State.

One of the Texas polls clearly oversampled the college educated voters, 79%; I heard and that is the poll Trump was leading by 3%.

Where is your evidence?

Clinton is winning with voters under 45.  Not a good portent for the future in Texas.

I don't think Trump leading is a good portent either

The majority of Hillary rousers in Texas are in Houston.

Houston does not speak for Texas.

How does it feel waking up every morning to more failure by Trump to find excuses for? I'm genuinely curious.

Texas 2012, Things have changed (influx of undocumented voters), but not by THAT much.

If this turns much Bluer in 2016, It's Donald's Fault (and TBR, of course).

Election Update: Trump May Depress Republican Turnout, Spelling Disaster For The GOP
Quote
Instead of a poll, let’s start today’s Election Update with some actual votes. According to the estimable Nevada journalist Jon Ralston, Democrats have a 20-percentage-point turnout edge so far based on early and absentee voting in Clark County (home to Las Vegas), Nevada. And they have a 10-point edge in Washoe County (home to Reno).

@AbaraXas

Quote
The previous ABC/Post poll found a sharp 12-point decline in enthusiasm for Trump among his supporters, almost exclusively among those who’d preferred a different GOP nominee. Intended participation now has followed: The share of registered Republicans who are likely to vote is down 7 points since mid-October.

Trump will win Texas at a walk even without my vote.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

Useful...  That always makes me think of this:

THE USELESS TREE

Hui Tzu said to Chuang:
I have a big tree,
The kind they call a "stinktree. "
The trunk is so distorted,
So full of knots,
No one can get a straight plank
Out of it.
The branches are so crooked
You cannot cut them up
In any way that makes sense.
There it stands beside the road.
No carpenter will even look at it.
Such is your teaching
Big and useless.

Chuang Tzu replied:
Have you ever watched the wildcat
Crouching, watching his prey
This way it leaps, and that way,
High and low, and at last
Lands in the trap.
But have you seen the yak?
Great as a thundercloud
He stands in his might.
Big? Sure,
He can't catch mice!

So for your big tree. No use?
Then plant it in the wasteland
In emptiness.
Walk idly around,
Rest under its shadow;
No axe or bill prepares its end.
No one will ever cut it down.

Useless? You should worry!

-

The Value of Uselessness

The tree on the mountain height is its own enemy.
The grease that feeds the light devours itself.
The cinnamon tree is edible: so it is cut down!
The lacquer tree is profitable: they maim it.
Every man knows how useful it is to be useful.

No one seems to know
How useful it is to be useless.

---

And when I hear Trump promising to solve everyone's problems and give people everything they'd ever asked for... I always think of this:

The Marsh Peasant

The little marsh pheasant
Must hop ten times
To get a bite of grain.

She must run a hundred steps
Before she takes a sip of water.
Yet she does not ask
To be kept in a hen run
Though she might have all she desired
Set before her.

She would rather run
And seek her own little living
Uncaged.

Well Austin is a state capital. How many state capitals in the US lean Republican / conservative?

Happy was stating that the only people in Texas in support of Hillary were in Houston.

I thought that to be wrong, sarcastically noting that Austin and Dallas were... in his post, conservative.

(They aren't.)

My county on that map is about as red as red can be.  We are the true buckle of the Bible belt.  We don't elect Dem's here, as a matter of fact very few even bother to run.   :patriot:

I'm in a RED County bordering a Blue (bexar) but my House District runs from north San Antonio to South Austin, needless to say he's entrenched, since 1995 (Lloyd Doggett).

It could always be worse I could live in the 18th.

This confirms our worst fears from when Trump was nominated.  Texas has at least 2:1 GOP representation up and down the ballot.  Come January, most of that advantage will be gone.  It's the same mess we face in the swing states, though the firewall is thicker perhaps in the south.

The majority of Hillary rousers in Texas are in Houston.

And the remainder of the state is comprised of Conservatives.  So it is going to be difficult for a liberal like Trump to win Texas.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

Our early voting starts tomorrow.  I'll be one of the ones in line to vote (down ticket only.)
