My 12-year-old informs me that they are having a mock election at his school tomorrow. To my surprise, he asks me if we could watch the political channels so that he could figure out who to vote for. As I turned the channel, we found Trump approaching the podium at the Al Smith dinner. I figured this would be a good way to present politics in a light-hearted fashion.
Trump started out well, but it shortly became apparent that Trump did not understand the protocol of the dinner. Instead of making light of himself, he began pressing harder and harder against Hillary. It was clear from the audience reaction that this was not being well received, but he didn't let up. I finally had to turn it off.
I then looked at my wife and asked her that if Trump were trying to lose this election on purpose, how would he have done that any differently.
It was the most classless display I have witnessed in a very long time. If you ever wondered what Alan Grayson would be like if he were a Republican, you now know.
I don't know who my son will be voting for tomorrow in his school election, but I can assure you it won't be Donald Trump.
