The former attorney general of Pennsylvania says she's been "humbled and embarrassed" by her perjury conviction and hopes to avoid jail time so she can raise her children.

Kathleen Kane is being sentenced Monday for leaking grand jury documents and lying about it under oath.

Defense lawyers say in court papers Tuesday that the fall from grace has been painful for Kane.

Prosecutors say the first-term Democrat disgraced the office by plotting revenge on rivals and blaming others for the leak.

They have asked that she be incarcerated. Kane faces anything from probation to 12 to 24 years in prison.

The 50-year-old Kane was a rising political star when she won the 2012 race to be the state's top law enforcement officer.

She was convicted at trial in August.

HARRISBURG — By mid-2012, eight of Pennsylvania's former legislative leaders were in prison, and former House Speakers John Perzel, a Republican, and Bill DeWeese, a Democrat, briefly shared a cell.

They were among more than 30 public officials with ties to the state Capitol who had been convicted of corruption charges by state, federal and local prosecutors.

It never ended.

Since 2013, 11 state officials — including five former legislators and former Treasurer Rob McCord — have been convicted in cases ranging from bribery and extortion to theft. In many cases, they agreed to plea bargains and offered pleas to conflict of interest. McCord pleaded guilty in February to extortion.

The key in PA is that you can be a corrupt as you want as long as it only fleeces the taxpayers. When you start stepping in on other officials reputations, graft and corruption, then you are finished. Just look at Rep Shuster.

“This case is about ego – the ego of a politician consumed with her image from Day One,” Demchick-Alloy said. “This case is about retaliation and revenge against perceived enemies who this defendant … felt had embarrassed her in the press.”

Kane, the first woman and first Democrat elected as the state’s top prosecutor, was handcuffed in court and led out a side door. She will remain in custody until she posts $75,000 cash bail, higher than she had previously posted.

The “Big Three” networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) continued their marathon of covering up Democratic scandals and controversies, Monday, by failing to report the prison sentencing of a former Democratic Party “rising star” during their evening broadcasts.  “A judge sentenced former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane on Monday to 10 to 23 months in prison for committing multiple felonies stemming from a politically motivated act of retribution,” reported CNN’s Max Blau.

CBS Philadelphia reports Kane had requested probation or house arrest so she could be home to raise her two teenage sons. She argued that the loss of her career, her law license, and her reputation was punishment enough.

However, prosecutors called her crimes “egregious” and pushed for jail time.

Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy said Kane assumed an “off with your heads” mentality as she ran the state’s top law enforcement agency. The judge called Kane a political “neophyte” who failed to make the transition from campaigner to public servant after she took office.

“This case is about ego - the ego of a politician consumed with her image from Day One,” Demchick-Alloy said. “This case is about retaliation and revenge against perceived enemies who this defendant ... felt had embarrassed her in the press.”

Kane was the first woman and first Democrat elected as the state’s top prosecutor. She was led out a side door with her hands cuffed in front of her, flanked by deputies.

She had been a stay-at-home mother, and former assistant county prosecutor, before using her husband’s trucking fortune to run for statewide office in 2012. She quickly became a rising star in the state Democratic Party before her office devolved into turmoil as career prosecutors came and went.

Kane and her husband are now estranged and share custody of their teenage boys.

“Your children are the ultimate ... collateral damages. They are casualties of your actions,” the judge said. “But you did that, not this court. “

Earlier Monday, Kane’s 15-year-old son pleaded for leniency while her former deputies described an office demoralized by her leadership and terrorized by “Nixonian espionage.”

Chris Kane called his mother “his rock” and said, “It would be tough for all of us” if she went to jail.

This is satisfying for a number of reasons. One is that another "Rock Star" of the Left has been unceremoniously disgraced. The other is that there is a hot chick in handcuffs. I hope there is a whole lot of Orange is the New Black stuff going to happen.

Yes it is, but not entirely unexpected.  First time offender and all that.  Plus there may have been some political machinations behind the scenes. 

But I'm glad she got her comeuppance.  Never forgave her for refusing to defend Pennsylvania's prohibition against gay marriage.  She was like the AG in Washington -- enforce and defend only the laws she liked.
