Quinnipiac: Independents Have Clinton Up in Fla., Colo., Pa., Tied in Ohio

Independent voters in several key swing states are shifting toward Democrat Hillary Clinton as the presidential election nears, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll.
The polls show Clinton ahead of Republican Donald Trump in Florida, Colorado and Pennsylvania, and tied in Ohio.
Here are how the matchups look:
• Florida:
Clinton: 48 percent
Trump 44 percent
Gary Johnson (Libertarian): 4 percent
Jill Stein (Green Party): 1 percent
Clinton led Trump 46-41 percent in the same poll Oct. 3.
• Colorado:
Clinton: 45 percent
Trump: 37 percent
Johnson 10 percent
Stein: 3 percent
Clinton led Trump 44-42 percent Sept. 22.
• Pennsylvania:
Clinton: 47 percent
Trump: 41 percent
Johnson: 6 percent
Stein: 1 percent
Clinton led Trump 45-41 percent Oct. 3.
• Ohio:
Trump: 45 percent
Clinton: 45 percent
Johnson: 6 percent
Stein: 1 percent
Trump led Clinton 47-42 percent Oct. 3.
"Secretary Clinton has held or increased her lead following the second debate," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said. "Obviously the allegations by a number of women about Donald Trump's behavior have taken a toll among some of those who had been in his column."
Brown pointed to Clinton's leads in Florida and Pennsylvania, saying Trump likely cannot win if he loses one of them.
"And he's toast if he loses both," Brown added.
Trump's best hope is a "knockout win" in Wednesday's third and final debate, Brown said.
"Once the Wednesday debate is over, the last three weeks of the campaign will be fought by competing turnout machines and TV commercials," he added. "Many observers believe Clinton has the superior ground game and money edge to dominate the airwaves."
The polls were conducted Oct. 10-16 using landlines and cell phones. Here are the margins of error by state:
660 Florida likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percentage points;
685 Colorado likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.7 percentage points;
660 Pennsylvania likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percentage points;
624 Ohio likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percentage points.
