How Trump’s detractors may have sabotaged their own October Surprise
posted at 9:31 am on October 9, 2016 by Jazz Shaw

Heading into tonight’s debates the theme for the evening has already been set by the media, along with everyone else who has been hoping that a giant sinkhole would open up and swallow Donald Trump like some sort of low rent Mothra in a budget Godzilla film. This narrative rests on the assumption that the video of Trump’s now infamous Bus Ride with Billy was the straw that broke the camel’s back and “everyone is fleeing the sinking ship.” Over at The Hill they’re keeping a running WHIP list of politicians who are pulling their support for the nominee. Less mentioned is the fact that these are mostly people who opposed Trump from the beginning and only came onboard when he began exceeding expectations in the polls.

So are these The End Days which everyone has been predicting? I wouldn’t be quite so hasty in nailing the coffin shut. Once the initial shock and awe has worn off you may find that those seeking to undermine Trump’s campaign have badly misplayed what could have been a winning hand. If the cable news authorities were going to quote any classic rock lyrics to script this moment it would be Jim Morrison singing about how This Is The End. But while the video was certainly a damaging broadside to the Trump campaign, the way this was handled was very possibly bungled. What could have really been the end of the line for The Donald may have been fumbled to the point where he has a path to recovery. There are three factors which may support this idea that I’d like to cover.

How about How Trump sabotaged his own election with his actions.

There are more revelations to come as we already know. Sounds like Damage control here.

Shaw is threading a needle Trump has never been able to thread.

Trump will not be able to resist attacking Bill Clinton.  So, when he brings that up, all she needs to say is "You're defending yourself for something you did by attacking me over something I didn't do?"

THROW....IN...THE......TOWEL!!  This atrocity is coming to a merciful end.

Interesting Slant, indeed, but the predicate of the article is based on:

Quote
What if, rather than going after Bill’s sexual escapades, he just says that it was a different time, that’s not how he sees women and he’s apologized. From there he launches into the recent email revelations about Hillary.

What is going to happen is Trump will not back out.  This election will be the last couple weeks of slime throwing against each other.  There is plenty to throw!  The American people will be left with one of the two slimiest people living in the United States to lead this country into the sewer.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

To minimize the damage done thus far, he is going to need a stellar debate performance tonight. One that has Hillary on constant defense.

Any takers on that happening?

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

WE have survived 'VICIOUS' Elections before, though this one does bring it up a few notches.

The Federalist riding high on the rewrite of the 'Articles of Confederation' just gave us the US Constitution.  The only way it was Ratified was the inclusion of the 'Bill of Rights', we were 'conned' then, and a plurality is being 'conned' now.

Yeah, with no money left to fund get-out-the-vote programs, and not a scintilla of support left from other republicans, and with a rock-hard narrative to hammer Trump with, Trump is still going to sweep to victory.

Whatever this guy's been smoking, it is most assuredly illegal.  Even in Colorado.

If Trump was actually interested in winning this, he would have hit Hillary harder than he hit Cruz and all the Republicans who would not genuflect his image and candidacy.

He would not have spent the first week in October going twitterzerk bashing a South American model among a jazillion other stupid inanities that were done for the sole sake of bragging how awesome he is in his own eyes.

If Trump were in this to win, he would have hit Hildabeast on those e-mails and never got off that subject.  He would have remained focused like a laser on the one issue that got him traction to begin with, but instead he has walked all of it back and his position today is about no different than what Boehner's was.

Trump was and is a Trojan Stalking Horse, and the evidence is going to be seen by those with eyes to see regarding how much destruction he has cause both the GOP and the Conservative movement.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

IMO, anyone actually interested in winning would have started attacking Hillary both barrels day one and held absolutely nothing back, tried her in the media fully before the primary and faced Bernie in the general. Then made the leadup an existential war between socialism and capitalism bu importing South Americans that can't find food or toilet paper and had them speak at every rally, followed by Cuban Americans, Victims of Islamic terror from Christian areas of the middle east and finally, exposed his wife's raiding of her college.

Yes, that is the other thing.

He has spent virtually NOTHING.  That 140 million ad buy?  Nothing.

He just pulled out of a bunch of markets that Limbaugh apparently explained was a 'good thing'.

Trump was never in this to *win*, because in a post-velvet coup America, there is no *winning* an election.  Those outcomes are decided in advance and everything is engineered to make that happen or appear legit.

Trump is just a wrecking ball.  Charges placed on the foundational supports that Trump detonated with his *candidacy* to make the entire Conservative movement within and without the GOP - crumble to dust.

Because the Godless Left understands that a secular and hedonist people want a king and will make government their god.  What better way to ensure that desire is within the whole people than to show that within the big-governmetn GOP itself - they were united in a  common cause to expand government.   They so easily got a plurality of the base to wave palm fronds for a lifelong NY Liberal Democrat running in their party as nominee, having usurped two key issues the Left knows the GOP and Conservative base was pissed about.

A people who want a king - always choose tyranny over liberty, and will make excuses for that need for tyranny under their chosen monarch.

Even if the issues motivating them are legitimate.

They bought a con, possibly engineered by the Clinton's themselves.

This wasn't the "October Surprise", heck I wasn't one bit surprised. None of this is new. The GrOPe allowed themselves to be infected and the corpse will hit the floor on November 8th.

You think Trump should have said not nice things about Hillary...EVEN THOUGH CHELSEA WAS IN THE AUDIENCE?

The article might have a point - I stress "might" - if this were the only revelation, but there is a whole mess of further revelations coming down the pipeline.  There is likely to be more than enough for at least one new one a week until Nov. 8th.

I am visiting upstate New York; I’ve been here for days.   Being me, I can’t go anywhere w/o engaging in political discourse with someone.  I have spoken with several people who told me while they had misgivings about supporting Trump, they did so because they believed he would and could restore the economic promise that once existed in this part of their state.

Upstate New York is dying on the vine.  Factories have closed, jobs have moved overseas and unemployment is higher than the national average.  These people have gone from what they deemed as having hope to seeing their candidate of choice let them down by handing the election to Hillary.  And to a man, they hate Hillary.

While it is hard to blame them for the Hillary victory that is sure to come it is their fault.  Anyone foolish enough to put their faith in a carnival barker charlatan candidate like Donald Trump deserves their fate.

I had a discussion with a man just this evening.  I told him I voted for Cruz.  He told me he wished he had done the same, to which I said, it’s not too late, you could always write him in.

Bottom line is, if you voted for Trump you helped elect Hillary.  Good show, America, enjoy the next 4-8 years.

@Vulcan

Spot on.  Unfortunately, any willingness to accept responsibility from these sorts will be a long, long time coming.
