Donald J. Trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 income tax returns, a tax deduction so substantial it could have allowed him to legally avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years, records obtained by The New York Times show.

The 1995 tax records, never before disclosed, reveal the extraordinary tax benefits that Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, derived from the financial wreckage he left behind in the early 1990s through mismanagement of three Atlantic City casinos, his ill-fated foray into the airline business and his ill-timed purchase of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.

Tax experts hired by The Times to analyze Mr. Trump’s 1995 records said tax rules that are especially advantageous to wealthy filers would have allowed Mr. Trump to use his $916 million loss to cancel out an equivalent amount of taxable income over an 18-year period.

I think it been apparent that Trump has not paid any taxes for years.

I'm wondering, and I honestly don't know, but has he said he would not accept the presidential salary if elected? Would seem to me that type of pledge could buffer this..

He wants to lead this country.  He has been dodging and lying, saying he will release returns after an audit.  More like after the election.  I think this is relevant info.  Seriously, he is a billionaire who has paid no taxes for years and years yet he wants to control the money the rest of us pay; you don't think that is relevant?

In addition to being a tabloid campaign, this is also the campaign of the leak.  On one side, we have private emails leaked via wikileaks and dcleaks, now we are seeing tax leaks.

If anything good comes from this, it is exposing a lot to the light of day.

Yeah, either way this plays out ....it makes Trump look bad. 

On one hand, if it's shown that he had almost a billion dollars of losses in one year, who the hell would want to put HIM in charge of the nation's economy.  On the other hand, if the tax records are not released 'now'....people will just assume the worst, that he really is hiding something even worse than the almost billion dollars of losses his "business genius" suffered. 

Either way it makes him look like a blithering fool and a liar about what a great business man he's been.
