Quote
Live long and...vote for Hillary Clinton?

A bevy of "Star Trek" cast and crew members from multiple generations signed an open letter Thursday by the Facebook group "Trekkies Against Trump," blasting GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and arguing against a third-party "protest vote" in the November election...

I wish Hollywood would just shut up and entertain me and tell me how to live my life or how to vote.  It's all just a distraction from the real issues among the candidates and with our nation.
There are no evil thoughts except one: the refusal to think.

Why does that not surprise me?

I was just sitting back wondering what their stance was.  I mean since Star Trek itself is based on a utopian world where no money exists and everyone relies on a perfect socialist government.

You get a list like that, and neither Patrick Stewart nor William Shatner signs?

When the rest of the crew goes against the will of the captain, that's called a mutiny.

Shut up and act. (and I mean that for all sides).   Actors get these YUGE! heads because they think they are so insightful because they read words someone else writes for them.  I respect them in their field, that's it. I wouldn't let 90% of them even balance my checkbook (not that I've done that in 20 years).  It is like letting your baker, who has no mechanical experience, try to work on  your car.

I'm sure Patrick Stewart is staying clear of US politics. Shatner has been around the block long enough to know to stay neutral to not turn off half his fan base.

He's also  a British citizen. Sir Patrick Stewart. He couldn't vote here even if he wanted to. Perhaps this is the reason he did not sign the letter.

Being a non-citizen never stopped UK citizen, Piers Morgan from shooting off his mouth on issues like gun control. But I suppose Mr. Stewart has a lot more class than Morgan.

Indeed.

Stewart is to the left on some issues but in general he keeps his mouth shut and entertains, which I respect. Shatner probably realized alienating half his audience is a bad business move, but is a lefty as well. Neither seems stupid enough to let their politics interfere with their career. So there may be hope for Hollywood.

Of course both are old and when they are gone their sanity will go with them.

Takei is still mad because he thinks Shatner snubbed his wedding.

Oh, these hollywood types ... they think we care about their political leanings.

I'd like to say I am going to boycott everything Startrek as a protest, but I never watched more than 3 or 4 of the tv episodes in my life, and none of the movies.

I have seen statues that were better actors than anybody in the cast.

I'm a fan boy.  I think JJ Abrams is a brilliant writer and director.  That doesn't mean he knows jack about politics.  I wish actors and entertainers would stick to what they know best.  I never ask my garbage collector for his views of politics.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
Unless I missed it, Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) didn't sign it either, nor did Scott Bakula (Cap'n Archer from Enterprise). Sure there are others from the newer series.

I think SB is a conservative but I could be wrong about that but I recall something about that impacting his career. Maybe I'm confusing him with Kevin Sorbo. One way or the other he was smart enough to keep his name off ther list.

According to Wikipedia, Shatner is Canadian.

Maybe he can't vote so that's why he didn't sign?

Looking that list over there are few names I recognize. For most of them this may be an attempt to get noticed. Maybe if I signed it it would kickstart my Hollywood career.
