Trump: I didn't say what I wanted to about Clinton's personal life

By Ben Kamisar

Donald Trump implied Monday night that he chose not to bring up former President Bill Clinton's past infidelities during the first presidential debate of 2016 — despite Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton accusing the Republican nominee of sexism.

When Fox News's Sean Hannity asked Trump immediately after the debate about Hillary Clinton's attacks, Trump said he showed restraint.

"Her husband was in the room, along with her daughter [Chelsea], who I think is a very nice lady. I didn't want to say what I was going to say about what was going on in their life, so I decided not to say it," Trump said.

"I thought it would be very disrespectful to Chelsea and the family. But she said very bad things about me."

Chelsea Clinton and Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump are longtime friends.

He added on CNN in another post-debate interview that he specifically held back talking about the "discretions of Bill Clinton."

Hillary Clinton closed the debate by seizing on a question to Trump from debate moderator Lester Holt about his comment that the Democratic nominee doesn’t have a "presidential look."

"This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. Someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, said women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men," Clinton said.

This is the idiot that liberals saddled America with to oppose Hillary.

LOL!  Just like he purposely didn't bring up Benghazi?

She had him so rattled, he was grasping at straws after the first 20 minutes.

Who the hell cares about Bill and his many loves, it old news. I would have been happy him bringing up more current Clinton scandals and embarrassments....like Bengahzi for instance. Which he also passed on.

I don't see how he would have benefitted from bringing up Bill's personal life given the facts of his own.

On the other hand, bringing up Bengazhi seems like a no brainer.

So it would have been very disrespectful to Chelsea and the family to bring it up during the debate but not by bringing it up a few hours later on a national cable TV show?

No one can tell me that this doesn't fit Trump to a tee.

Not to mention that Trump hasn't been very squeaky clean when it comes to marital infidelities and bragging in his book, The Art Of The Deal about bedding the wives of some of his friends and business associates.

Because even though it's past BS, it's past BS that many fencers would have gone over to his team at seeing her get what she has avoided for over 20 years. And Trump is not here to win. He's here to help Hillary win as shown by his refusal to hit her on that, Bhenghazi, Emails and a literal thousand other things. Just as the GOP threw the election with McCain and later Romney, they are going for the threepeat.

If Trump does attack her personal life instead of attacking her corruption, lies and dangerous policies, he would be making a mistake.

Exactly.  Bill and Donnie are two peas in a pod when it comes to misogynistic womanizing and serial adultery.

Donnie needs to leave that alone.

But if he actually CARED about winning the election, the horror of Benghazi doesn't seem like something one would just leave out.

Why attack her personal life when her political life offer such rich opportunity?

Starting with her being fired from the senate watergate committee for unethical behavior, proceeding through her time at the Rose Law firm, and going to Washington poor as a pauper yet ending up with 120 million dollars, not to mention her and bill's pay-for-play clinton foundation.

To focus on bill's womanizing is to throw the election.

being fired from the senate watergate committee for unethical behavior

Easily refuted, because the man who had the authority to fire her has shot down that rumor.

proceeding through her time at the Rose Law firm

Good one, if presented properly to inform all the younger crowd who don't know of it, and the older crowd who got sick of it and forgot it.

Points the finger back at Donnie, who contributed.
