Woman accused of smuggling aliens over Detroit border

Jennifer Chambers, The Detroit News 12:08 p.m. EDT September 21, 2016

A federal judge has detained a Canadian woman accused of operating a scheme to smuggle aliens into the United States through Detroit for money.

Iram Jafri, 37, of Windsor was named in a 33-page criminal complaint on Sept. 12, accusing her of creating and soliciting fraudulent documents to facilitate the illegal entry of multiple aliens over the last five years. The complaint says Jafri accepted thousands of dollars to her family business, A.J. & Associates Immigration Firm, as payments.

The complaint also identifies seven individuals who were allegedly smuggled into the United States by Jafri using layers of fraudulent documents that Jafri created in some cases.
