Donald Trump's Great Society
« on: September 17, 2016, 06:13:12 pm »
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/donald-trumps-great-society/article/2602027

Donald Trump has famously vowed to "Make America Great Again," but his actual vision for the nation has less in common with Ronald Reagan (who used the phrase in his 1980 campaign) and more in common with Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society," which represented one of the most massive expansions of government in American history.

On several occasions this week, Trump signaled that if elected, he would work to expand the size and scope of government.

Trump took a page from socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders's policy agenda, releasing a proposal for six weeks of government-paid mandatory maternity leave.

Sure, his plan included some cosmetic touches (including child care tax deductions) meant to disguise it as a market-friendly plan, but there's no way to cover up the fact that Trump would be creating a new government entitlement.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

Trump hasn't signaled he would expand the size and scope of the federal government. He has made it very clear he plans on doing such.

Of course, his supporters, who would otherwise oppose this, will tell you that it will be fully funded. Hillary makes the same claim for her ideas, also. BHO also claimed his visions wouldn't add one dime to the deficit. And the Iraq War was going to be paid for with Iraqi oil.

So should we expect the debt to reach 30 trillion after Trump's 8 years?

This is the big issue facing us. The growth of the federal government. Not a frog cartoon that would mean nothing to most of the electorate, anyways

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Actually, the frog issue also matters in that it is symbolic of an evil element within Trump's support group.

As for the other, absolutely.  But don't you know Trump is god to them and so he can speak things into existence.  You are not to doubt him.

I have seen some attempts by some here to spin this as conservatism. Regardless of their spin attempts, this is an expansion of the size and scope of the Federal government.  It will add to the deficit and debt. You cannot spin mathematic reality away

"Great Society"???

No, this would be properly titled "The best society with the biggest government" whereupon Trump ushers in the amalgamation of Obama, Hillary and Sanders' behemoth government statism and packages it as Conservative.

And his rabid Militants will bang their drums and sound their trumpets to exclaim how much more "Conservative" Trump is to Reagan and George Washington.

Anyone advocating and supporting ANY expansion, growth, entitlement of the government in the debt state we are in, IS ABSOLUTELY NO CONSERVATIVE, BUT JUST ANOTHER SOCIALIST/MARXIST IN DISGUISE.

By their fruits and their words you will know them.

Either apostates or frauds pretending to be Conservative.

And they have more in common with Hillary, Sanders and Obama than they do any of us.

Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Those of us who went into the GOP primary season with both eyes wide open knew that Trump would, at some point, gravitate back towards the center left. None of what I've heard come out of his mouth lately as it relates to the role and size of the federal government surprises me.

Very true.  It doesn't surprise me either.  The level of blind allegiance to him surprises me though.

@musiclady   I want you to see this bugs bunny piano avatar before I change it.  LOL.  I think it's so cute.

This may be simplistic, but IMO you cannot be in favor of Kelo and profess that you are for limited government. Remember, the SCOTUS upheld Korematsu and Plessy.

Trump is promising to outspend Hillary.

Not simplistic and you are 100% correct.

I'm in a pensive state of mind, as I'm continuing my Examination of Conscience before receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation in an hour or so. It's a beautiful gift from God, but is often quite unsettling. I'm nowhere near a perfect or righteous man, and to identify the numerous times I've strayed is very uncomfortable.

Not to mention keeping federal lands out of the hands of those greedy states who might sell it.

As for Trump and Hillary for that matter, they are just buying votes.

And the next generation gets the bill

Having read both 1984 and Brave New World on a few occasions, I'd say what his vision resembles can be found in the pages of those books. His doublespeak and supporters' similarity to the Junior Anti-Sex League/2 Min. Hate and their doublethink is on display daily.
