Gingrich: ‘Never Trump’ in Love With the Past, ‘Utterly Out of Touch With Reality’

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a supporter of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, warned so-called “Never Trumpers” that not supporting Trump mean you’re in love with the past and look to write off the future with his opponent Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Gingrich declared there was no other viable “conservative” alternative to Trump and suggest otherwise mean you would be “out of touch with reality.”

I won't be here after the election and vote.

If Hillary wins - I will be busy, BLOAT! (It won't be long before she won't let you buy.)

If Trump wins, I won't be here to GLOAT. (I don't want to hang around while everyone looks at every speck in his eye.)

Thanks newt, you've really convinced me.   :silly:

Respecting the Constitution and Bill of Rights is now 'in love with the past'.

So much for the idea that Gingrich is smart.

I'm hoping this culling of the herd resulting from this election season will actually be a healthy thing. We've been allowing pretenders and frauds to speak for us for far too long.

Damn right. I've been a 'bitter clinger' for 8 years now and I don't plan to stop.

Progress doesn't change the truth. Kipling said it best in "The Gods of the Copybook Headings"

AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

This has been sort of a cleansing, hasn't it?

We're finding out what these 'spokespersons' actually believe, and it hasn't been pretty.

I now would no more look to Newt for political opinions than I do for moral views.

He doesn't represent any part of my worldview.

Gingrich: ‘Never Trump’ in Love With the Past, ‘Utterly Out of Touch With Reality’

Interesting.

That's the exact same argument the radical Left makes with those of us who argue the Constitution, because that too - they say.. is out of touch with reality.

Liberalism is now the center-right apparently.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

They're working hard to do and say everything they can to make sure we DON'T vote for Trump.

It's bizarre.

Didn't Gingrich write historical novels, or actual history books?

Projection, much?

People used to make the case that he was a big government type, at first, I didn't believe them, but after a bit of research, they were right.

I tend to think of Gingrich as in the same category as Paul Ryan.

But here is Newts "On The Issues" scorecard rating:

I still don't really believe it. See the website for how the determine that:
http://www.ontheissues.org/Newt_Gingrich.htm

Well actually, they have Paul Ryan as identical.
Hmm, ok, they have Ted Cruz as identical with Paul Ryan and Newt Gingrich.

Unless I am missing something, On The Issues can't be trusted.

It makes you wonder if dumb asses like Gingrich and Hannity realizes everytime they open their giant pie holes they just make things worse.

I figured Gingrich out in the last election when he was pushing the idea of amnesty under the guise of making illegals into 'non voting citizens'. The supreme court would have given them the vote inside 6 months and he knew it.

I wasn't thrilled with his idea of a free market EPA either.

That's a good point.  Do you think they're trying to lose support for Trump (and themselves) deliberately?  Because every time I'm called a "traitor" or "out of touch" it makes me move even farther away from these guys.

Every thing these cheerleaders say makes me even more resolved to remain true to Conservatism.

These Trump surrogates are not principled conservatives.  They're sports fans.  No matter what my team does, it's better than your team.  If my team wins, I can feel like a winner too.

I loved it when Newt helped create a new Pub party that was no longer happy to be a silent majority in the legislative branch. He was on CSPAN all the time and articulated conservatism brilliantly. The contract with America was great. Today we see the true believers of that revolution are no longer welcome in the Pub party, unless of course we will be happy to be a silent part of the party.

It would have been a unanimous decision. Gingrich was just flailing around for something the people would buy.

I think they're are just arrogant dopes.  They somehow believe we all worship them and will follow them where ever they go.   They are the ones living in the past when we were all just happy there was somebody speaking what we were thinking.  It is we who have grown and thrown off the shackles of these guys.  It is we who have learned not to trust people like Newt and Hannity.  We know longer allow supposed "conservatives" to throw crumbs are way and  thank them for it.

Considering the dismal future we are facing under yet more liberal socialist policies....and considering the stark reality of the current situation ($20 Trillion in debt and spiraling out of control)....

who, in their right mind, would not seek a return to the past and a resurrection of past non-socialist and non-big-government policies that actually worked?  If that's what Newt calls "in love with the past"...

color me lovestruck!!!

Yet another good point.

We have matured in our Conservatism over the past 30 or so years, and they assume they still have the power to force us into their way of thinking.

I mean, does Newt really think that insulting Conservatives is going to change our values??

Rush always said that his audience was smart and not dependent on him for ideas.  He was right about that, but now I don't think he ever believed it.  He thought we were a bunch of "mind-numbed robots" who didn't have conservative values.

He was wrong.

I never have needed anyone to help me think, and I sure don't now that they're trying to force me to do something I find unconscionable.

Oh, I had Newt figured out in 2009, when he got all mad about Republicans saying they didn't like liberal Republican Dede Scozzfava and they were flocking to conservative Dan Hoffman.  When Newt started saying basically that ti doesn't matter what her positions are, she's a republican and all you people need to say to hell with your conscience and principles and fall in line and vote for her, I realized he's not conservative.  It was funny that then Dede turned around and got out of the race, and endorsed the liberal Democrat.

Oh......... I had forgotten about that awful Scozzafava endorsement.

I knew Newt wasn't Conservative at heart, but had forgotten that he endorsed someone so very, very far to the left.
