Clinton to focus on family issues in return to campaign trail

Hillary Clinton is returning to the campaign trail Thursday with a speech that will spotlight her plans to help families.

Clinton has been off the road since Sunday, when she was caught on video stumbling and struggling to enter a van after a Sept. 11 memorial in New York. Her campaign acknowledged afterward that she had been battling pneumonia.

“One upside to Hillary Clinton's break from the trail was having time to sharpen the final argument she will present to voters in these closing weeks," Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri said in a statement.

"So when she rejoins the trail tomorrow, Hillary Clinton will deliver the second in a series of speeches laying out her aspirational vision for the country: that we are 'Stronger Together.' "

The Sunday incident sparked a focus on candidate health in the presidential campaign. Clinton on Wednesday sought to quell questions about her well-being by releasing medical records from her personal doctor, including a note where the doctor called her "healthy and fit to serve as president" and described her "mild, non-contagious bacterial pneumonia."

Clinton's running mate Tim Kaine also released his medical information Wednesday. GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump spoke about his recent physical on a Wednesday taping of "The Dr. Oz Show" that will air Thursday, but he has not yet released the information publicly.

Palmieri said in the statement that during Thursday's speech in Greensboro, Clinton will "focus on what has been at the core of who Hillary Clinton is as a person and the mission of her campaign."

"How we lift up our children and families and make sure that every child has the chance to live up to their God given potential," she said.

"Our campaign readily admits that running against a candidate as controversial as Donald Trump means it is harder to be heard on what you aspire for the country's future and it is incumbent on us to work harder to make sure voters hear that vision."

The Democratic nominee will give speeches in the future focused on an inclusive economy and national service.

Like infecting her grandchildren with pneumonia?
