Newt: Trump ‘Represents the Same Tradition of Conservatism as Churchill and Thatcher’

Tuesday on Fox New Channel’s “On the Record,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, an outspoken supporter of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, addressed Trump’s policy initiatives, including his latest on childcare.

When asked by host Brit Hume if such a policy proposal was “conservative,” given the questions about how it would be financed, Gingrich argued Trump was more of a conservative along the lines of former British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher and that he represents more of an anti-Washington movement.

Trump ‘Represents the Same Tradition of Conservatism as Churchill and Thatcher’ is as stupid as trying to convince us that the Ayatollah represents the same tradition of Christianity as Pope John Paul II and Billy Graham.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Hey Newt this is America.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

"Special", now there is a word with some interesting connotations attached to it. Out of respect for those with family that this word has been used as a descriptor I will not use any examples.

...but desperate times need special leaders.

That's what Italy thought in 1922 and Germany in 1933 during their desperate times.

I have to say that I've sometimes wondered if Trump is destined to play the role of Julius Caesar, a strong personality that rose to popularity due to the public's displeasure with a corrupt ruling class of elites, but whose rise eventually set the stage to end of the republic.

Yes, possibly.

You say "wondered if Trump is destined." With Hillary it is, "Hillary will be destined."

We know exactly that Hillary will be the end of the republic. What we don't know is will Trump be the end of the republic.

It's going to work great until we run out of other people's money...

I think needs to escalated right into triple face palm territory.

Clueless.

The Republic is already ended.  Your party in Congress saw to that.

What we have now is corporatocracy/Fascism/Socialism and Statism masquerading as a Democracy.

Wasn't Thatcher the one who told us 'the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people's money'? And isn't Trump the one who thinks now is the time to borrow more?

These Trump acolytes are sounding more and more like a rank propagandists. Or plain old political opportunists.

Vote for Trump or not. But good grief stop LYING about why we all should.

Just a reminder of what Churchill and Thatcher believed so folks aren't duped by Newt's revisionist history:

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. -Winston Churchill

Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon. -Winston Churchill

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. -Winston Churchill

Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them. -Margaret Thatcher

Pennies don't fall from heaven, they have to be earned here on earth.-Margaret Thatcher

You know, if you just set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything, wouldn't you, at any time? And you would achieve nothing. -Margaret Thatcher
