Bulgaria unemployment, at 7.9% in July, again lower than EU average

Unemployment in Bulgaria in July 2016 was 7.9 per cent, below the European Union average of 8.6 per cent, and down from 9.2 per cent a year earlier, according to figures released by EU statistics agency Eurostat on August 31.

In July 2015, 306 000 people in Bulgaria were unemployed. In July 2016, this fell to 259 000 people, going by Eurostat’s figures.

Unemployment in Bulgaria was eight per cent in April, May and June 2016, the July figure representing the first time it fell below eight per cent.

Youth unemployment in Bulgaria also showed a significant decrease, from 21.7 per cent in July 2015 (about 40 000 people under 25) to 14.5 per cent in July 2016 (about 24 000 people).
