I am not sure.One could make the case that Nolan Ryan or Elvis Presley are "Institutional Elites".
It was kind of a rhetorical question. For pretty much all definitions (especially going back to C. Wright Mills' book The Power Elite), Trump, by all accounts, would be the definition of an institutional elite.
And yet the institutional elites are still flocking in large numbers to either him or Clinton. There's no mass defection among those in power. That should tell you something.I noted in the local paper this afternoon that several of Trump's New York supporters were in fact supporters of Jeb! (Trump's previous foil) before they supported Trump. Challenging the institutional elite? He's got their backing! He's probably financed their campaigns in years past.
