The American people voted for him a long time ago.

They voted for him when The History Channel went from showing documentaries about the Second World War to Pawn Stars and Swamp People.

They voted for him when The Discovery Channel went from showing Lost Treasures of the Yangtze Valley to Naked and Afraid.

They voted for him when The Learning Channel moved from something you could learn from to My 600 Pound Life.

They voted for him when CBS went from airing Harvest of Shame to airing Big Brother......

While I have serious doubts that he'll be elected I get what the author is saying and I agree.

Nope, society has been moving that way for a while, Trump (and Hillary) is just another symptom. It was on full display for the Hope and Change election.

Even with Bush V Gore, both sides hated the other side, but from just a candidate on paper perspective, you had a highly successful governor versus a sitting Vice President so the resumes for the job at least reflected what one would expect.

Now, we've gotten to the point where it is a carnival barker versus a no results coat tail rider.  You have the two least qualified candidates out of their respective fields. One winning his primary due to catch phrases and the other, due to her gender and name.

With liberals its been a deliberate dumbing down. Just suggest to a liberal that constitutional proficiency be required to graduate from high school and they go rabid.

I dunno.... It seems to me that this is the latest phase in a populist movement that's been building for a while now.  Just to pick a starting point, consider Ross Perot's candidacy, which reminds me of Trump's in a lot of ways.  Then Pat Buchanan made his minor splash; and then Sarah Palin stepped into the role along with the likes of Michelle Bachman and others.

The movement itself is based on some legitimate grievances, which are poorly understood by most of us, especially those for whom the grievances are a daily burden; and it's fertile ground for demagoguery.
