Louisiana gov: Trump helped 'shine a spotlight' on flood recovery
The Hill,  Aug 21, 2016, Rebecca Savransky

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) said Sunday that Donald Trump  has helped draw attention to recovery efforts after the recent devastating floods in his state.

In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," the governor downplayed critical remarks he made before the Republican presidential nominee visited his state.

"I didn't dismiss his trip as a photo-op. Before he came down, I said we welcome him here, we want him to be helpful," Edwards said. "And we hope that it doesn't turn into a mere photo-op."

Edwards said Trump's visit to the state was positive for Louisiana.

"Because it helped to shine a spotlight on Louisiana and on the dire situation that we have here, that it was helpful," he said.

"I also appreciated the good phone call, the conversation that I had with Gov. [Mike] Pence [R-Ind.], who was sincere and genuine when he called, and we spoke for a long time on Friday morning about their desire to be helpful," he said about Trump's running mate.

Edwards had previously said the state welcomed the GOP nominee, as long as he didn't use the visit for his own political gain.

"We welcome him to Louisiana, but not for a photo-op. Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm," the governor said ahead of Trump's visit.

Which Trump proceeded to do.

Louisiana authorities dispute Donald Trump’s claim that he donated the truckload of supplies

When Donald Trump spent under a minute unenthusiastically unloading supplies from a truck in a Louisiana flood zone for a photo op, he was hoping Americans would assume he donated the supplies himself. Now that a number of observers have begun questioning whether the supplies even came from him or his Trump organization, his campaign began hinting as much. But now local authorities are disputing Trump’s claim that the truckload of supplies was even his.

In an attempt to get to the bottom of the matter, David Fahrenthold of the Washington Post reached out and asked the local Ascension Parish government whether Donald Trump had indeed donated the truckload of supplies in question. “We don’t have any info abt a donation truck that came from him directly,” was the spokesman’s diplomatic way of saying that Trump hadn’t donated any such thing. But it gets worse.

The Trump campaign is also telling Fox News that Donald Trump has made a $100,000 donation to the Louisiana Flood Relief Fund, as the state’s Governor John Bel Edwards had publicly asked him to. But when asked, the fund is declining to confirm that any such donation exists.

If this is true Trump would have to be the lowest person to ever run for President.  Honestly I hope it isn't true.  That would be so disgusting.  Did all the Veterans charity money ever fully get distributed?

We know that Trump is cheep and likes to stiff his workers also.

Once again, Donald Trump is a liar.
Liar is just so.........common, Trump is more grandiose, he is a prevaricator and a master of the art of projection as when he projected his faults onto Ted Cruz.

Senior campaign aide tells @FoxNews Donald Trump made a $100K donation to the Greenwell Springs Baptist Church in Greenwell Springs, La.

Interestingly neither Greenwell Springs Baptist Church’s website or FB page while acknowledging Trump and Pence’s visit, make no mention of any donation from Trump. That’s not to say it didn’t happen but one would think they’d at least say thanks ….. :pondering:

But just an FYI, Greenwell Springs Baptist Church’s interim pastor is Tony Perkins.

FWIW - Aubrey O’Day’s charity was GLSEN.

Trump doesn't give a DIME to charity.  If any money is disbursed, it comes from his Foundation, which is other peoples' money.

While Trump supporters complain about the media, in reality, Trump has gotten away with quite a lot that's been relatively unquestioned by the widespread media.  He flat-out lies about things and gets away with it.  I wouldn't be surprised if this story is true.

So basically Trump-Pence found a relief truck they had nothing to do with and took some pics while pretending to unload it.

Then claimed the whole truck was from them?

wow

Leave it to his Orangeness to turn a PR positive into a disaster.

I'm trying to figure out how, if this story is true, Trump would 'think' he could or would get away with claiming credit for the donation of cash and supplies.  Surely.....he's not 'that' dumb....

is he?

It must be a mistake....or just the Hillary media spinning again.

Right?

He will walk it back and claim he wasn't the one who said he donated the truckload, that that was just the 'dopey' media getting their facts wrong. If someone complains about that, they did it to set him up. Life is so easy when it isn't your fault, whatever it is.
