For LA Rams fans, the Coliseum — even at 93 — is still ‘the greatest’

Los Angeles Rams season ticket holder Jamaal Artis crawled down the 110 Freeway, inched for what seemed like an eternity on side streets toward Exposition Park, then drew a breath upon seeing the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum — billed as “the greatest stadium in the world.”

I saw the Dodgers play there, before the Chavez Ravine facility was built.

I saw the Rams and the Raiders play there, too. The last visit to the Coliseum was a Raider game, months before the Rodney King riots, when near new condos nearby got the torch.

A close friend of mine worked downtown, and had an auto accident in a Central American barrio, and it really scared him. His lovely wife was Hispanic, by the way-a CPA/CFO type.
