Imam and Another Man Killed in Shooting Near Mosque in Queens

A gunman shot and killed two people near a mosque in Queens on Saturday afternoon, according to the police. A congregant of the mosque, the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid, said its imam was among the victims.

The gunshots rang out at around 1:55 p.m. a couple of blocks away from the mosque in the Ozone Park neighborhood. The victims, a 64-year-old man and a 55-year-old man, were rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, the police said.

Misba Abdin, 47, who attends the mosque and is a leader of a nonprofit in the neighborhood, said the imam had been walking away from the mosque with his brother-in-law after he had led a prayer when they were shot.

The police said they were still investigating whether the shooting, which was initially reported as a robbery, was a hate crime. The police have not released the names of the victims.

This just broke, headline looks serious. We will see.

Of course, it is serious when anything like this happens, don't get me wrong. More details are needed.

Cops and witnesses described the shooter as tall and Hispanic, carrying a large handgun, and wearing a dark blue shirt and short pants. Police received a 911 call with a report of shots fired.

A gunman shot and killed a New York imam and his assistant near their mosque in the borough of Queens during a brazen attack carried out in broad daylight Saturday.

Police said the imam, identified as Maulama Akonjee, 55, and his assistant, 64-year-old Thara Uddin, were shot just before 2:00 pm (1800 GMT) in the Ozone Park neighborhood.

The working class area, on the border between Queens and Brooklyn, is home to many Muslim families from Bangladesh.

In this case, it sounds like a Mosque where the Muslims largely have a Bangladeshi background. The USA interviewed a "parishioner" to the Mosque, Choudary, that seems to be a name in that part of the world, at least Pakistan. The radical cleric in England often interviewed is Choudary, a Pakistani.

I fired a surgical oncologist in January whose last name was Choudary and was from Pakistan. Weird.

Obama has blinded law enforcement in America to the obvious. I read the article and was chuckling the whole time at how STUPID the Police are pretending to be. This is very similar to the guy who calls in to 911, announces that he is about to slaughter a bunch of people for ISIS, then yells Allah Akbar the whole time he is shooting, and the official report claims that they cannot yet determine the shooter's "motivation".


So here, we have an Imam leaving a mosque after prayer, in full religious garb, in the middle of the day, and the Cops think that it was a "Hispanic anti-Muslim hate crime which was motivated by Trump" or that it was a midday robbery gone wrong? That is more than simply stupid, that is a criminally incompetent investigation if any of what they are saying is even partially true.

True.  Remember how the media tried to blame the Gabby Giffords shooting on the electoral map on Sarah Palin's website?  It didn't matter that the shooter was a left-wing pothead, probably mentally ill, wasn't a Palin supporter, had never seen the map, or that the DNC website had posted a very similar map at the same time.  But for a whole week the country was talking about Palin's map.
