Trump praises Priebus, projects unity with RNC

Donald Trump sought to project a united front with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Friday night.
Hours after the Trump campaign met with Republican Party officials, their nominee profusely praised Priebus at a rally in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
“Reince has done such an amazing job and [the media] portrayed him slightly inaccurately,” Trump said. “The head of the Republican National Committee has done such a great job. We’re friends. We work together. We work with a lot of other people and I have to say we have great unification. Now, every once in a while, you read about somebody that wants to be a rebel, they get a little free publicly for themselves.”
Priebus also tried to reassure voters of party unity at Trump’s earlier rally in Erie, Pennsylvania.
“Don’t believe the garbage you read,” he said, introducing Trump. “Let me tell you something: Donald Trump, the Republican Party, all of you, we’re gonna put him in the White House and save this country together.”
The meeting earlier Friday, however, was described beforehand as an “emergency” as tension mounted between Trump’s campaign and the RNC, which has been facing pressure from prominent members to redirect funds to down-ballot races.
