I suppose the Olympics would be France's reward for showing the rest of the western leaders how martial law is accomplished. Hollande actually said: "The whole world is under threat from terrorism. No region, no country, no city can think they are immune." It is reminiscent of Terry Gilliam's Brazil, with terrorism everywhere and the real terrorists getting a pass.
My understanding of the French, based on this reading:
http://www.counterpunch.org/2015/11/23/france-and-martial-law/ is that they are more like cats than sheep, so if it worked there it will work anywhere. Imagine it, the whole world under threat from "terror" and "warming". Really we are under threat from paying rotten egg heads too much mind.
