Release Date:
August 1, 2016

Packages containing 2,522 pounds of marijuana
seized by CBP officers at World Trade Bridge

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at World Trade Bridge discovered $504,491 in alleged marijuana in a commercial shipment of corrugated cardboard.

“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers and a great example of the layered enforcement implemented by CBP,” said (A) Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “Our CBP officers’ knowledge of concealment methods and the technology they utilized on a daily basis played a key role in the discovery.”
The seizure occurred on Thursday, July 28, when a CBP officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a commercial shipment of corrugated cardboard for a non-intrusive inspection. A canine and non-intrusive inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 115 packages allegedly containing 2,522 pounds of alleged marijuana hidden within the shipment. The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $504,491.
