Did Trump flip on deportation ... again? Has Donald Trump flipped again, this time on deportation? Some might think so but the truth is more complicated.
A new AP report released August 1 suggests that the Republican presidential nominee is toning down his rhetoric on illegal immigration as GOP officials dismiss claims that Mr. Trump plans to deport the 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.
"Trump has already said that he will not do massive deportations," Helen Aguirre Ferre, the Republican National Committee's director of Hispanic communications, told the press at a Spanish-language briefing during the Republican National Convention. "He will focus on removing the violent undocumented who have criminal records and live in the country," she said, but will not deport non-violent violators of immigration law.
That seems to contradict what Mr. Trump declared on MSNBC last fall, when he said “we are going to have a deportation force, and we’re going to do it humanely...”
...Consider that in 2013, before he announced he was running for president, Mr. Trump hosted a gathering of Dreamers at Trump Tower. He told them that their stories had convinced him of the need for amnesty for the children of illegal immigrants to become citizens....
...Note that in June of 2015, shortly after he announced his candidacy, Mr. Trump told TMZ that it would be “unrealistic” and “inhumane” to attempt to deport all 11 million illegal immigrants. He proposed creating a “system of merit” giving non-violent illegal aliens “a road to legal status” (amnesty) if they “work hard and contribute to this country.”
In August of 2015, Mr. Trump described how the wall he intends to build along the southern border will have “a big beautiful door” through which deported illegal immigrants could “come back into the country” legally. Trump doubled down on this position in November during the primary debate in Milwaukee, WI, saying of illegal immigrants: “We are a country of laws. Going to have to go out and they will come back but they are going to have to go out and hopefully they get back.” This is known as “touchback amnesty.”
Eric Trump reiterated his father’s support for touchback amnesty in December of 2015, saying “The point isn’t just deporting them, it’s deporting them and letting them back in legally”And now Republican officials are openly confirming what Mr. Trump’s policy has been all along. Namely that he will not deport illegal aliens and in fact supports amnesty...- See more at:
