Trump vows to crack down on Internet porn

By Daniel Halper August 1, 2016 | 9:20am

Donald Trump will crackdown on Internet pornography if elected president, vowing to appoint a commission to examine its “harmful public health impact.”

News of the promise–which comes as racy photos of his wife Melania were obtained by The Post is part of “The Children’s Internet Safety Presidential Pledge,” from the group Enough is Enough, which Trump signed on July 16.

The anti-porn commitment means he promises to “uphold the rule of law by aggressively enforce existing federal laws to prevent the sexual exploitation of children online, including the federal obscenity laws, child pornography laws, sexual predation laws and the sex trafficking laws.”

He also pledges to:

“Aggressively enforce the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requiring schools and public libraries using government eRate monies to filter child pornography and pornography by requiring effective oversight by the Federal Communications Commission;
“Protect and defend the innocence of America’s children by advancing public policies that prevent the sexual exploitation of children in a manner that is consistent with the government’s compelling interest in protecting its most vulnerable citizens, within the limits set forth by the First Amendment.”

Hillary Clinton has not signed the anti-porn pledge, citing a policy of not signing pledges, according to the Washington Examiner.

The racy snaps capture 25-year-old Melania Trump — then Melania Knauss — in various stages of mostly undress, and in at least one, in a nude embrace with another woman. The photos were previously published in a now-defunct French magazine in the 1990s.

Trump spokesman Jason Miller told CNN that the mogul is “a little more focused on the direction of the country and what we need to do to get it turned around.”

“They’re a celebration of the human body as art, and [there’s] nothing to be embarrassed about with the photos. She’s a beautiful woman,” Miller added.

Looks like he is talking largely about child porn. It would be good to make that a priority to fight.

Uh oh? Does his buddy Epstein know about this? He may not approve...
How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

This is from a guy who thinks child molesters are something to joke about. (at least, that's giving him a big benefit of the doubt that he was joking versus aware of and blowing off Epstein's criminal behavior).

Or at least the bits involving his wife.

I don’t disagree with you. Child pornography is…., well I don’t think I can come up with words strong enough or appropriate to use here to express how horrific that is.

This org is not however solely focused on only child porn.

http://enough.org/aboutus

Here is the pledge if anyone is interested.

http://enough.org/objects/PresidentialPledgeFinal-formatted.pdf

Here is where I think it goes too far.

Quote
4) Give serious consideration to appointing a Presidential Commission to examine the
harmful public health impact of Internet pornography on youth, families and the American
culture and the prevention of the sexual exploitation of children in the digital age.

I really don’t think we need a Presidential Commission. Child pornography, the making of and the downloading and distribution of it, is already illegal and is prosecuted. Should or can more be done? Perhaps, but I don’t think the answer is a Presidential Commission or “Porn Tsar”.

While certainly not a fan of adult porn, especially of the hard core and fetish variety or that which depicts violence, I am also cautious when it comes to censorship of the internet.  Pandora’s Box and all that.  Additionally, while most of us are familiar with the phrase attributed to Justice Potter Stewart regarding what is obscene - “I know it when I see it”, I tend want to err on the side of not having the federal government make those decisions for adults.

I also think that where people are right in saying that Trump is hypocritical on this issue.  Aside from aspects of his wife’s “modeling” career is that Trump while a guest on the Howard Stern radio show, talked about how he and Melania had watched Paris Hilton’s sex tape, a sex tape that was released on the internet and allegedly without her knowledge or permission.  Paris Hilton was not a child at the time, IIRC she was 22 years old but the disturbing thing was that Trump knew and was friendly with her family and knew her as a child.

Quote
“Now, somebody who a lot of people don’t give credit to but is in actuality very beautiful is Paris Hilton. I’ve known Paris Hilton from the time she’s 12, her parents are friends of mine, and the first time I saw her she walked into the room and I said, ‘Who the hell is that?’ At 12, I wasn’t interested… but she was beautiful.”

FWIW – some years ago my eldest great niece and her husband were cleaning up their home computer and were deleting searches and cookies only to discover searches for Girls Gone Wild, Hot Naked Co-Eds and other similar sites.

Her husband said that it wasn’t him so they confronted their son who was around 13 years old at the time.  He admitted that it was he who had done the searches.  But in his defense, he told his parents that he really didn’t see much of anything. Why? “All those sites asked for a CC number” he said.

Porn is free on the internet. Why do they give it away, you ask? It is a potent and insidious weapon.

Trump can appoint Melania to head up the Presidential Commission.

So true! I once put up a post on TOS about a man who was addicted to porn; he was partaking of the Sacraments of the Catholic Church to help him with his addiction. He, himself, saw the thread I put up [and commentary; pictures of Helen Thomas], and he got back with me, and said that pornography addiction is [in part] caused by the ultimate disrespect of women [sound familiar Donald?], and that by putting up pictures of HT, that's what they were [already] doing, regardless of whether they viewed porn or not. (I asked JR to take the post down; he complied.)

America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. At least it will drive the liberals crazy talking about "free speech rights" which they are also trying desperately to eliminate.

At other times, I'd laughingly suggest that 'Porn tsar" was the result of an interesting transposition.

I, too, am dead set against child pornography, and don't have porn in the house. To my knowledge, none of my computers has ever been on a porn site, but then, I bought them refurbished or used and wiped, so who knows what was on them when.

Still I agree with your point that we don't need another government commission to dig into something else. I'd wager we have enough government employees surfing porn sites on the internet whether it is their job to determine whether the material is appropriate or they are just on break.

We have laws against child porn, and enforcing those should be sufficient.

Wish I could snap my fingers and internet porn never existed, because the addiction often comes at a terrible price. But to put the genie back in the bottle would require a massive growth of government and federal powers like we have never seen. And it would need to expand beyond the borders of the United States, because 40% of the porn web pages are not American. That's if you could first win the battle of Free Speech and does it cover porn? -And all porn or just some?

Back to "What is 'art' and what is porn?"

Somewhere the lines cross, and it is the determination of where that crossing is that is an individual choice. There are those things we pretty much universally will agree are too explicit or offensive, and the broad area where we can make the case for artistic value, it is that vast gray area that would be a problem.

Ban that which is universally offensive (as we have), and let people decide from there.
