Going hungry in Venezuela

It's one thing to talk to people you've never met before who are suffering from hunger, and it's a completely different thing when they are from your own family, as the BBC's Vladimir Hernandez discovered when he returned to his native Venezuela to report on its failure to get food on people's tables.

Travelling through the country this month I saw endless queues of people trying to buy food - any food - at supermarkets and other government-run shops.

I was stopped at a roadblock in the middle of the countryside by people who said they had eaten nothing but mangoes for three days.

Well....since the UN has proven itself to be, time and time again, a fraudulent and corrupt organization that is responding to the Venezuelan crisis with .....crickets....

I posit that we should immediately withdraw all US support to the UN, kick them out of the NY office, and form our own humanitarian aid organization.  Funny how only "certain" nations warrant any aid or help these days.
No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

There was an earlier thread about Venezuela and I posted that my Bob, earth scientist/geologist, was amazed that Venezuela citizens were starving.  Many years ago, he went there to determine where there was oil and the citizens had plenty of good food.  He wondered what happened to the fields of growing food of all types and all the fruits they grew.  I told him the government took over all the farms and fruit plantations and they no longer produce food and the plantations have fallen to the wayside.  What fruit is growing now is nature doing its thing.

I have come up with a fast food storage method that will keep a family in this country prepared for an emergency.  Buy many types of cereal so you don't get burned out on only one kind.  There are vitamins and protein/minerals in cereals.  They will store for a vrey long time without losing those vitamins and protein.  Also buy canned soups of various kinds and they will store for many years without losing their vitamins/minerals/protein/liquid.  Buy packages of instant milk and store those.  Now you are prepared for what nature or government does to you.  You must have water to live so that needs to be added to your storage - you must have a way to have good water.  I have a long article about water on a survival website.  I don't have time right now to put that here, but if anyone wants to know about water, let me know, and I will post it.

The government controls imports. It's the Atlas Shrugged thing all over. Government officials decide what gets priority and importing fertilizer is not really on their list.

If anyone here thinks that Venezuelans are starting to "get it", here is a quote from the article:

Quote
"Since (President) Maduro took power we are in a very bad situation. We call it here 'the Maduro diet'.

"When Chavez was in power this didn't happen."

This person does not recognize that Maduro is continuing the Chavez policy that got them into this mess in the first place.
They believe: ' Maduro = bad. Chavez policy = good.'

Yes, it was already heading in this direction but Marduro is getting the end-state.
