I’m not even at this point sure anymore if I can vote for down ticket Republicans.

If down ticket Republicans will rubber stamp Trump’s insane and anti-conservative, unconstitutional pledges, I cannot in good conscience vote for them. Then again if Hillary is elected, I’m not convinced that they will not roll over for her just like they’ve done for Obama for the last 8 years.

To paraphrase Regan: I didn’t leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me.

Now I face the choice of sitting out an election for the very first time of my life, or voting 3rd party. I could have voted for Austin Petersen if he’d gotten the Libertarian nomination but I’m not at all that found of Gary Johnson. I am not sure that the Constitution Party candidate, Darrell Castle will be on the ballot here in PA but I may do a write in if he’s not.

Understood, of course, but with just one caveat. Whoever's President will need to be reined in by Congress. And this talk about leaving the GOP suggests that the party consists solely of the top. I want to see Pat Toomey re-elected, and I don't want conservatives to lose all influence by the GOP losing the Senate and even the House.

There's still a need to stay a Republican, to put the yard signs out and otherwise work affirmatively to limit the damage.

I've made my peace with it by adopting a small mental fiction. For some strange reason, the GOP didn't put up a candidate for President this year. There's a Dem candidate I don't like, and a "National Front" candidate I like even less. I'll vote my conscience, and thank the Trumpsters for demanding I don't.

Honestly, I don't give a hoot about Toomey either...I remember when he banged the drum against military "don't ask don't tell" and the "Defense of Marriage Act" before he was even sworn in, and then led McConnell and Reid's budget "super committee" that resulted in sequestration and chaos in military funding. Lately, he's become big buddies with Joe Manchin and has become a gun grabber of the worst sort. And his fundraising emails lately are becoming more desperate as he is finally realizing how much damage he has done to himself by cozing up to McConnell.

I think we all agree on that point.

It is the inchoate rambling that follows that any reasonable person ought to find troubling. And no Presidential candidate in recent memory (with the possible exception of H Ross Perot) has been as incoherent as Donald J. Trump. Call it the "Trump Train of Thought".

We have to face the fact that our next president is going to be either a corrupt Clinton or an equally corrupt Clinton donor who is also a certifiable lunatic.

The only thing left to do is laugh our butts off and enjoy the schadenfreude as even the most hardcore Trump worshipers come to realize what they've done. Letting go of their savior fantasy is going to be very, very difficult.
