A potential coup in Turkey. Military taking over government in a NATO member state... Looks like a dangerous situation

I think this could actually be a good thing.... if I'm correct in thinking that the Turkish military are not Islamist.

maybe, maybe not....

The Turkish government had shown signs of backing off support of Islamist rebels in Syria in the last couple days

If I recall correctly, The Turkish military was a moderate stabilizing factor in Turkey like the Egyptian Military was in Egypt.

They couldn't really be much worse than Edrogan.

BREAKING NEWS: Turkish military launch attempted coup to depose government as gunfire and low flying jets heard over Ankara

Here's another link to a story on this.
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

Turkey has been NATO member since 1952, and has had military coups (or memorandums as other interventions have been named) in 1960, 1971, 1980, 1993 and 1997.

Constitutionally, the military in Egypt is separate from the civilian government, and something like that in Turkey.  This is being described as a military coup de etat; it is yet to be seen if it will be a bloodless coup or not.  A lot depends on who wants what, and there is a lot going on in Turkey.

Stay tuned....
