Trump beats expectations, raises $51 million with GOP in June

Donald Trump raised more than $26 million through online and mail solicitations and another $25 million at events with the Republican National Committee in June, his campaign announced Wednesday, a hefty haul that his allies hope will put to rest anxieties in the party about his fundraising prowess.

The combined $51 million falls short of the $68.5 million that presumptive Democratic contender Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party collected in June, which included $40.5 million she raised directly for her campaign. But it was the biggest monthly take by far for the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, who did not begin to hold fundraising events until late May. And it suggests that Trump has the ability to quickly inject large sums of money into his campaign coffers by tapping into the fervor of his supporters.

Much of the campaign's money appears to have come in during the final 10 days of the month, when Trump’s operation began aggressively soliciting money online for the first time. The Trump campaign announced Wednesday that more than 400,000 supporters made donations in June, with more than $3 million coming in just one day. That indicates that the billionaire will be able to post far larger totals in the coming months if he continues to actively urge his backers to give.

Trump also contributed $3.8 million personally last month, bringing his total donations to $55 million, his campaign said.

It is unclear how much of the $51 million will go directly to Trump’s campaign. More than $31 million was raised through two joint fundraising efforts with the RNC, which gets a share of the proceeds.

The Trump campaign must file a detailed report about its June fundraising and expenditures to the Federal Election Commission by July 20, which falls right in the middle of the Republican National Convention.

The campaign began its first real attempt to raise funds online in late June, after its most recent FEC filing showed it brought in just $5.4 million in May, including a $2.2 million loan from the candidate. That paltry total — and the fact that Trump began June with just $1.3 million in the bank —  astonished party leaders and fundraisers. They warned that the candidate’s fundraising deficit could hurt down-ticket Republicans counting on a well-funded RNC get-out-the-vote operation.

Trump responded to the criticism by first blaming party leaders for failing to rally around his candidacy and threatening to self-fund his bid, leaving the GOP to fend for itself.

But within days, his campaign began rolling out a series of emails asking supporters for donations. And the real estate tycoon announced that he was converting $50 million worth of loans he made to his campaign into contributions, seeking to assuage fears that he would use donations to pay himself back.

Word is, Trump’s July haul is already on a pace to eclipse the June mark.

It appears raising money won’t be a problem – just as Mr. Trump promised.

And in related campaign news, Team Trump is said to be huddling more often with possible Vice Presidential pick, Newt Gingrich in recent days. D.C. Whispers was the first to report of a Trump-Gingrich alliance several months ago, and since that time, those initial reports have been repeatedly substantiated.

Today, Trump is scheduled to appear onstage with Gingrich at a campaign rally in Ohio. The Trump camp has been watching how potential VP candidates perform onstage with the New York billionaire, an effort based largely upon Trump’s demand that he have a running mate who matches well with his own naturally combative personality.

Gingrich is among the very few politicos who has the stage presence to not be entirely overshadowed by the larger-than-life Donald Trump. The former House Speaker would also provide the kind of tactical D.C. abilities some suggest is sorely needed within the still largely “outsider” Trump campaign.

Word is that Gingrich has indicated he is very interested in the job of Vice President, but has already outlined some demands should he be chosen as Mr. Trump’s running mate. These demands center on his desire to be granted significant discretion in helping to run day-to-day workings of a Trump administration, namely being the primary link between the White House and Congress so that a Trump agenda has the best chance of actually being implemented.

In essence, Trump would provide the big picture outline, and it would be Gingrich who would then implement the details, a legislative operation very similar to what was incorporated during the Reagan-era.

He's going to need more than $50 Million per month from here on to even match the $1 Billion Team Hillary is going to spend.

Plus, I'm not sure how good is ground game is.

Why is that since hes already proven he can deliver with much less spending then anybody else?

The paradigm of $$ = votes was made obsolete this election.

Oh and as far as ground game, hes got tens of millions of enthusiastic supporters. After the convention is when this Campaign kicks in gear.

So if Trump and the RNC split it then suddenly Trump's fundraising is $35 million, not $51 million.  Clinton raised $68 million, $40 million for her campaign alone.  So using the same measure she raised more for her campaign alone - $40 million plus half the $28 million raised with the DNC - than Trump and the RNC raised combined.

To put this in context Trump beat 16 candidates with almost half a billion dollars between them while spending about 50 million dollars on his own. 

You are barking up the wrong tree here. The $ = votes paradigm was so last election.

But keep on thinking small and obsolete.
