The Washington Post/ABC poll found Hillary Clinton expanding her lead over the presumptive Republican presidential nominee to 12 points, a 14-point swing from Trump's 2-point lead in May.

Part of that may be thanks to former Sanders supporters, who appear to be coalescing around the presumptive Democratic nominee.

According to the poll, just 8% of respondents who backed Sanders in the primaries said they will support Trump over Clinton in the general election. That was down from 20% percent last month.

Over the last several months, Trump has repeatedly parroted some of Sanders' rhetorical attacks on Clinton over the former secretary of state's ties to the financial industry and political elites.

During a Wednesday speech, Trump made a direct appeal to the senator's supporters, highlighting the real-estate magnate's skepticism of international trade deals.

Well they voted for him in the primaries and kept that damn evil liar Ted Cruz from running against Hillary. And the Trump fanatics will be forever grateful for America's loss. Thats the important thing.

Said he didn't need us IIRC.

His supporters have seven fits trying to explain that away. But it's logical that since conservatives don't go where they arent wanted, people supporting Trump arent conservatives. The math checks out. So they can lose without us just as Mitt Romney lost without conservatives.

Their argument is "you have nowhere to go, so shut up or we'll blame you when Hillary wins."

The Bernie backers were never going to back Trump. At least not in the numbers he would need. Bernie backers are left of the left. Looks like all those cross over voters that voted Trump in the open primaries are crossing back over.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

It's telling that Trump thinks he has more to offer far left-wing socialists than he does conservatives. :chairbang:

Trump won't win over Sanders supporters because they come from two virulently opposed left-of-center, ultimately socialist ideologies.  Trump represents socialism blended/limited by nationalism.  It is the same sort of socialism that has cropped up in a number of Latin American countries, such as with Chavez in Venezuela.  I am not suggesting that Trump is so unconstrained that he could unleash the full extent of his caudillo tendencies, but I am saying that he shares the same economic and nationalistic tendencies as Chavez (also, I believe S. Allende of Chile had the same views).  Sanders represents the more internationalist strain typically associated with the communists, which is typically deracinated and works primarily on the basis of class rather than nationality.

National socialists and communists frequently come to violent conflict with each other.
