Republican House speaker Paul Ryan's disconnect from reality when it comes to illegals crossing our borders and killing innocent Americans is staggering.
Last Wednesday, the Wisconsin congressman essentially told Fox's Bill O'Reilly to forget about getting Kate's Law passed through Congress any time soon.
Kate's Law is named after Kate Steinle, who died on July 1 after being shot on a San Francisco pier by an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times. The legislation establishes mandatory five-year federal sentences for those deportees re-entering the United States illegally.
Ryan, the eternal policy wonk, whom Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), an open borders fanatic, once praised as the "smartest person in the GOP conference," blamed the opposition to the law on those pesky illegals gumming up the jails with their DUIs. Ryan went on to suggest we stop prosecuting these lesser crimes in order to create more space in the jails for the “true violent criminals.”
Here's the exchange between O'Reilly and Ryan:
O’Reilly: “Right now we have a system where we can’t protect Americans from violent criminal aliens, who defy deportation four, five, six times. We still can’t protect Kate Steinle, a 32 year-old woman in San Francisco from being killed. Kate’s Law would make it easier for the authorities to apprehend foreign criminals … and it would also provide mandatory sentences just for defying deportation. And Congress can’t get it done, and the folks don’t understand why.”
Ryan: …what we have to figure out is how do we write Kate’s Law so that we’re not clogging up our jails so much for, say, DUI, but for the true violent criminals? … We need to get the details right so that we actually are going after the people that are doing this. … Trust me, you know we’re frustrated about this"
Ryan's frustration has zip to do with dead Americans murdered by illegals and everything to do with keeping up the pretense of being a principled conservative while cozying up to liberal Democrats.
In 2013, Ryan aligned himself with Rep. Gutierrez calling for comprehensive immigration reform.
A week after the Boston marathon bombings, Ryan spoke in Chicago alongside Gutierrez. Both men used the deadly attack to call for even more lax immigration policies.

Former Vice Presidential candidate and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan on Monday urged his colleagues in Congress to not let last week's attack in Boston derail their efforts for comprehensive immigration reform.
"I would say for the sake of our national security we want to modernize our immigration laws," Ryan said prior to a speech on the topic with Rep. Luis Gutierrez at the City Club of Chicago.
Ryan's early alliance with Gutierrez, whose ties to socialist and Marxist-Leninist groups are well documented at David Horowitz's Discover the Networks website, is unfathomable for a man who claims to be a conservative.
In 2015, Gutierrez spoke publicly about Kate Steinle's murder. Gutierrez could not contain his anger toward concerned citizens citing the Steinle killing as yet one more reason U.S. authorities should enforce immigration laws to stop deported illegals from continuing to cross the border again and again.
Gutierrez claimed: “Every time a little thing like this happens, they use the most extreme example to say it [sanctuary policies] must be eliminated.”
In his interview with Bill O’Reilly last week, Ryan proved himself no less callous than Gutierrez when it comes to minimizing the crimes illegals commit here in the United States. Some of those intoxicated illegals “clogging” up the system are murderers, Mr. Ryan.
In 2011, a Benedictine nun was killed by an illegal driving drunk in northern Virginia. In the same year, a 23-year-old young man driving home from Christmas shopping with his mother was also killed by a drunk illegal immigrant. A Houston police officer was killed in 2008 when an illegal drove drunk through a police barricade. These are just a few of the hundreds of people murdered by illegals under the influence. The list goes on and on. But Ryan is too busy doing the bidding of his open borders pals to care.
