This is the same gun that was used in the Orlando terror attack, which left 49 people dead.

But Daily News columnist Helen Ubiñas says she purchased it in Philadelphia on Monday, the day after the shooting.

"Seven minutes. From the moment I handed the salesperson my driver's license to the moment I passed my background check", she writes.

"It likely will take more time than that during the forthcoming round of vigils to respectfully read the names of the more than 100 people who were killed or injured."

She says she did not even need a cover story as to why she wanted the weapon.

The anti-gun fervor is getting insane.

So, the story is that she legally bought a gun and it didn't take long?

So she had and passed the legally-mandated background check -- and assuming she's not a criminal, and that the background check looks for the right things, that's as it should be.

Her obvious point is that she should have had to do "more" to prove that she had no bad intentions with the gun she'd purchased.

Not sure what "more" she'd suggest ... I guess a waiting period.  Which would not really have helped in Orlando, as Mateen had been planning his act of terrorism for some time.

I will say that the fact that Mateen passed the mandated background check is cause for serious concern.  There were all sorts of red flags for that guy.  Why was he not flagged for this?

Almost as if we are supposed to think it was a cloak and dagger operation, imagining her  in a long trench-coat looking both ways before slipping into an alley to get one of those horrible, terror weapons...

Maybe this writer should have been denied a gun for being a moron.

My last two purchases were of a rifle and a shotgun. Also speedy, I'm happy to say.  ^-^

That's for the wife not the salesperson. "Umm, Honey looked what follwed my home from Cabellas..."

Was it an AR-14? :thud:

Oh, heck no, she got an AR 72.

A friend of mine told me about his neighbor, who is unfortunately a voter, said we need to ban those guns and the "AR" means "assault rifle".

Well, then.... just make it a PTP-15 instead..... "Personal Target Practice."

Nice carbine.  I wonder if I could buy it from her at a discount now that her stupid non-point is made.

I'm laughing at the naivete of lib reporters. She bought a gun...how about that. I suppose she thinks that if someone buys a gun, they automatically want to go and shoot innocent people....what other reason could there be?
I own a Ruger 10-22 which qualifies as a semi-automatic. It has never occurred to me that it would be a good idea to walk into some place and start gunning down people.  In my state of Wisconsin there are millions of guns and millions of gun owners. But the great majority of them have never intentionally shot anybody. The gun-related homicides in Wisconsin are mostly from the Milwaukee inner city.
Are these lib reporters that stupid and/or naive? I guess so.
