CLEVELAND (AP) — The father of a woman killed by a convicted sex offender dived across a courtroom table to attack him Thursday shortly after a judge sentenced the defendant to death for killing three people and wrapping their bodies in garbage bags.

Van Terry, the father of Shirellda Terry, had walked to the front of the courtroom to give a victim-impact statement and turned toward Michael Madison, who gave him a malicious smile. Terry lunged at Madison and was immediately swarmed by sheriff's deputies as Madison and his attorneys scrambled to get out of the way.

Law enforcement officers dragged Terry out of the courtroom and ushered him out of the courthouse. A spokesman for the Cuyahoga County prosecutor said the situation was being reviewed.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy McDonnell declined to clear the courtroom, and after about a 15-minute delay the hearing continued.

One can't blame him, the poor man.  The depraved criminal was sentenced to death.  Awful crime. Prayers for the father.

Even more sensible (albeit not legal) would be to let the father have five unrestricted minutes to pound that subhuman to dust.

Anything other than the recognition that this was a grieving father acting against an unrepentant criminal would be a travesty.

I can't fathom the pain of losing a child, especially to evil.

It sounds like Shirellda Terry was blessed to have a father in her life on this earth who loved her and mourns her loss.

The only thing that ought to be reviewed is what freed a convicted sex offender to commit murder and break hearts.

His reaction is natural, I think a lot of us would do the same.  I can't imagine what one would be going through in this kind of situation.

Perps like that evil subhuman should be gagged and a hood placed over their head during the trial and these statements...allowing them to mock the victims families is malicious.
