Two Arrested After Georgia Sheriff’s Deputy Shot In The Face

Police have arrested a man and woman after a Georgia sheriff’s deputy was shot in the face Saturday night.
Authorities arrested Joe Lee Garrett, 24, only a few hours after a traffic stop for speeding exploded into a shooting. Authorities said Garrett gave Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Jamie White his driver’s license before pulling out a pistol to shoot him. Garrett then fled the scene. The bullet hit White just above the left eye, but did not go into his brain. Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley said White is “doing much better” since his surgery, WTVM reports.
Authorities said Garrett actually turned himself in after family told him police were searching for him. Police also arrested Lytishia Horace, saying she is connected to the shooting. Police said two women were in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Garrett is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning. He is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony obstruction, fleeing and attempting to elude, and possession of a firearm during a felony, WRBL reports.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office during this time,” Muscogee County Sheriff John T. Darr said on Facebook. “A Harris County Deputy was shot during a traffic stop this evening. We ask you to be considerate of the family and office during this difficult time. The men and women of the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office stand with you all.”
