3 Conservatives to Head Up GOP Platform Panel

The Republican National Committee has named three conservatives to lead the committee writing the party's platform for this summer's presidential convention, CNN reports.

Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso will chair the committee with co-chairs Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx, according to Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.

"I know they will bring their good judgment and a principled vision for our Party and our country into this role," Priebus said in a prepared statement. "Writing the platform is a critical task, and as we enter one of the most important elections of our lifetime, our party is eager to lead an American resurgence by standing on our commitment to life, individual liberty, a strong national defense, and an economy that works for all Americans."

The appointment may be an effort to assuage fears by social conservatives that presumptive nominee Donald Trump may try to move the party to the left. Trump has been criticized by the right for his support for Planned Parenthood and the transgender bathroom issue.

Further, CNN notes, more moderate and economic conservatives, including donor Paul Singer, have been trying to get the party to move left on LGBT issues.

Social conservatives including Jim Bopp, Bruce Ash and Solomon Yue have vowed to keep that party from supporting same-sex marriage in the platform.

Why is the RNC elitists choosing who runs the convention committee? Why aren't the delegates assigned to the convention selecting from their body?  GOPe gone rogue again!

Until the GOP gets competition from another party to the right of it, they will continue to moderate to the left.
