Report: Rattled WH locked down by balloons

"All clear at White House after several 'party balloons' drift over White House grounds," NBC reported just ten minutes after first noting the lockdown.

President Obama was not in the White House at the time, as he's traveling in Vietnam and Japan. But the quick decision to tighten things up was made two days after a shooting outside the White House spawned a lockdown. The most recent fence jumping at the White House was just six weeks ago.

It is unclear what threat the White House thought the balloons posed.

There was a brief security scare at the White House Sunday afternoon, two days after a shooting near the executive branch complex prompted a lockdown.

NBC broke the news on Twitter, then followed up about 15 minutes later to report that everything was OK. The security concern appeared to have been prompted by some loose balloons that floated over the grounds.

Got to be a good political cartoon about this out there somewhere...
