Can Drudge, Breitbart be trusted to hold liberal Trump accountable?


No.

After a week of painting everyone who questions Donald Trump as the bad guys, the weekend rolled in with three truly negative Trump stories. He refused to release his taxes, later saying that he might release them after the audit (which he won’t). He refused to condemn Obama’s transgender bathroom decree, later saying that it should be an issue for states. Audio surfaced with Trump pretending to be someone else, which he denies now (though he acknowledged it when it happened).

Breitbart’s top headline is a puff peace on making America great again. Drudge is pushing an animated movie at the Cannes Film Festival. In fact, the only story Drudge posted so far this weekend that even mentions Trump is in reference to Senator Ben Sasse being reprimanded for being #NeverTrump.

These and other leading “conservative” publications cannot be trusted with reporting as it pertains to Trump. They’re in bed with him. They’re his personal PR firms that have exchanged conservatism for page views – and that’s the best case scenario for their duplicity. There’s not reason to believe that their coverage hasn’t been bought and paid for directly, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt based upon their past service to the country and conservatism.

Some will point out that the push to stop Hillary Clinton supersedes journalistic integrity and that’s absolutely fine. They should being saying that. In fact, they should have been saying it for months rather than pretending to be journalistic. They’ve been Pro-Trump, anti-everyone else (particularly Ted Cruz) for months. If their goal was to stop Clinton, why have they promoted the only candidate who has a good chance of losing to her? No, they’re not righteous right-wing warriors fighting the evil Clinton dynasty. They’ve been all about Trump for along time, including the months when a real candidate who could beat her still had a chance of winning the nomination.

We are #NeverTrump and #NeverHillary. Readers have no doubt about that. We’re not pretending to be otherwise. In fact, we have a sticky post at the top of our homepage declaring our stance. I’m not pointing this out to promote some sense of journalistic integrity. It’s all about transparency, something that the conservative movement should cherish.

As long as Drudge and Breitbart represent the media’s impression of conservatism, it can never succeed. They’ve latched onto a train that’s bound to crash. At the very least, it will take the Republican party down with it. At worst, it’s the country that will suffer at Trump’s hands. Drudge and Breitbart are willing accomplices.

It is ironic that Drudge would be pushing a guy like Trump when his rise to fame happened with his criticisms of a guy like Trump (Bill Clinton).  Only Bill Clinton was not nearly as power hungry and thuggish as Trump.  Under Clinton we got welfare reform and balanced budgets and a Defense of Marriage Act.  He may not have advocated for them, but neither was he an Obama or a Trump.  Obama is a full out ideologue who will just decree what he wants without Congress and Trump will be a bully who does whatever he thinks will aggrandize himself more.  I'm not saying Clinton was great.  I'm saying he was better than Trump has any chance of being.  How ironic that Drudge loves him so.
