That might make for a good new music topic.  What was your 1st song purchase Hmmm.  For us that would most likely be a 45!   LOL.  Others an album, 8-Trac. Cassette, CD, MP3,.....  I left 78's off?

the first single I ever bought, The Shirelles, Soldier Boy

Not positive which 45 was first, but it was among these:

Chubby Checker-The Twist

Like you I'm not sure which was 1st.  I remember the store and the cost.  .99 cents.  and the year 1966.

It was either:
Kicks- Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Didn't know at the time it was an anti-drug song.  Just liked the beat and it was good to dance too.  I give it and 85 Dick!

Wild Thing - The Troggs
Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys

I used to watch a TV show that featured Paul Revere & The Raiders:

BTW, the first LP I bought may have been the Platters' Encore of Golden Hits...

The first music recording I ever remember "buying;" the family had just bought a CD player and we found one of those music clubs (you know, 12 CD's for a buck kind of deals) to help stock our collection. We were each allowed to pick one CD of our own. (My dad introduced me to Warren Zevon that way when he included the Excitable Boy album.) Most of them were country and older rock pieces, 'cause that's the kind of house I was raised in, and mine was no exception.

My choice was Johnny Cash's 16 Biggest Hits. Here's one of the cuts from that piece, as Cash did shortly before he died in 2003. It's called "Understand Your Man."

@jmyrlefuller    LOL
Boy do I remember those record clubs.  Seemed like a great deal.  12 albums for 99 cents.  But after finding 6 or 8 albums you really liked you had to struggle to find something else that you might like.  So, after a few so-so pickss  you have ten and you still need 2 more Albums.  At that point we took those stamp looking things and tacked them to the wall and tossed darts for the last two selections.   That's how I got my copy of William Shatner sings "Lucy In The Sky (With Diamonds)

Ever notice how the glue on those stamps never stuck to the order form???  What was up with that????

After you receive your 12 FREE albums you had to buy 10 more at regular club price.  Club price was 3 Times The major Record & Tape Stores!!!   lol.

We did the same thing - sometimes just closed my eyes and picked something I'd never heard of.  Most of the time I was disappointed - this was one of the CD's that pleasantly surprised me.

Midge Ure, Breathe

Very first music album I ever purchased with lawn mowing money made at 11 Yrs old.

Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775
