Morningtown Ride is called a lullaby, perhaps not as well known as some of the Seekers' other songs in this country. Kind of nice.  Australian group, brother of Dusty Springfield wrote some of their hit songs but not the one below, written by a woman.

And yet, it is not some real old song at that.

Quote
Train whistle blowin'
Makes a sleepy noise
Underneath the blankets
For all the girls and boys
Rockin' rollin' ridin'
Out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown
Many miles away
Driver at the engine
Sandman rings the bell
Underneath the lantern
To show that all is well
Rockin' rollin' ridin'
Out along the bay
All bound for Morningtown
Many miles away

The Springfields were a folk group with Dusty and Brother forshadowed the Seekers and were probably a bit similar.

Then, Dusty went on to her own thing and became a big star. There's a bunch of books on her at amazon to read.

Seeing the album cover, "Greenback Dollar", that's a catchy song which of course, the Kingston Trio did and Hoyt Axton wrote.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoyt_Axton

Have the Kingston Trio's Greenback Dollar on a 45 (have ~800 of them & ~200 LPs).

Looking at a couple of other songs on that album...

I know 2 versions of Midnight Special:

& a later version...

There's also a song entitled Little By Little. I don't know if the following is the one on that LP, but it's the one I know:

Dusty and her brother, Tom, the songwriter, were in the group, then, somehow, the other member was or became a Muslim.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reshad_Feild  Sounds like he did like Cat Stevens, whatever.

Poor Dusty, I think she overcame breast cancer; was recording or going to go out on tour and then, it came back and killed her. Quite a talent.

The 2 versions I posted were the only ones to make the pop singles charts bet. 1955-1990.

CCR's 1st 2 charted songs (prior to Proud Mary in '69) were covers...

Shout, Shout, Knock Yourself Out!

Probably one of my favorite '50s! Second video is a French version (video from "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World" and some other movie), great and then, Rocky Sharpe and the Replays in the '70s and '80s had a real big hit with this.

Real American Graffiti by the British band.

The song "Runaround Sue" is mentioned in the lyrics. Ernie Maresca wrote both "Runaround Sue" & "The Wanderer" for his fellow Bronx, NY native Dion...
