But similarly, Donald Trump's Trade War protectionism will cause the price of American goods and services to skyrocket, send even more companies fleeing for foreign shores, and cause the US dollar to collapse when our debt is forcibly repatriated, as it will be by China and Russia.

In truth, America's economic problems were not created by foreigners. They were born in the U.S.A. - high taxes, insane regulations, a poor educational system dominated by government bureaucrats, incomprehensible and destructive laws, and hordes of rapacious lawyers and their jackpot juries have all conspired to drive capital out while incentives to adapt and change our industries to the realities of global trade have been smothered.

Free markets are the answer. It would be nice if we tried it.

Moreover, we didn't have truly global economy 30 years ago. We do now. Capital is fungible and can be redeployed at the touch of a button anywhere in the world, to anywhere else.

The way to create new jobs in America is to first address the problems that America has created for itself. When I hear Mr. Trump start talking about that reality, I'll listen.

Except they will not move it back here. Ever. Carrier is not in business to lose money. They will do what any rational business would do: seek to reduce fixed expenses at existing American facilities and increase productivity through process re-engineering, automation, facilities relocation and yes, by cutting jobs and benefits as well as raising retail prices for their units. Gutting the EPA would be a nice start, but it's only a small part of a much larger problem.

So what? That has nothing to do with profitability and price competition. Prices will rise and jobs will be eliminated. Otherwise, their already small profit margins will shrink. Carrier is a division of United Technologies (UTX), which has many business units and as a publicly-traded company, investors to answer to. That's why they relocated in the first place: lower labor costs, skilled workers, lower taxes, lower legal costs, and a supportive government. If you want jobs to come back to America, change America.
